The riots on Saturday night in Barcelona have left 14 establishments looted or smashed and numerous damages to street furniture, which the Barcelona City Council has already estimated at an initial value of 36,000 euros. The center of Barcelona woke up this Sunday morning with the effects of the riots that took place last night. Many shopkeepers and workers were trying this morning to fix or cover some of the damage—which mostly affected franchises or luxury stores—while other shops were still waiting for repairs.

The police sources consulted last night by ARA had already pointed it out and, this morning, the chief commissioner of the Mossos d'Esquadra, Sílvia Catà, admitted it openly. The police force is "surprised" by the turn taken by the youth protest this Saturday night in Barcelona, which ended as a pitched battle in the city center. "It is quite inexplicable, it is not a demonstration like those we are used to protecting," argued the commissioner, in an interview on Catalunya Ràdio.

Hot nights not only prevent rest, but also directly influence health and mortality rates worldwide. This is the main conclusion of an international study led by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) that analyzed the effects of nighttime air temperature in 178 locations in 44 countries between 1990 and 2018. The research, carried out through research institutes in Catalonia, Galicia, and Andalusia, found a mortality rate of up to 3%.
