Palamós has had an unsolved mystery since Sant Esteve. The local police of this Baix Empordà town have been investigating whether the fire at the iconic fishermen's hut in Cala Estreta, where Francesc Cots has lived here for more than fifteen yearsThe fire was deliberately set. For reasons still unknown, the fire started on December 26th while Cots was out of the shack visiting his family. The entire interior of the shack was destroyed. The Palamós Town Hall, which owns the shack, has filed a complaint to investigate who caused the fire. While awaiting the outcome of the investigation, municipal sources suspect it could have been an act of vandalism. One of the shack's walls was graffiti that read "Out with squatters," although it is unknown whether it was done on the 26th or before the fire. Municipal sources explain that the Town Hall's technical services are currently assessing the condition of the shack's interior and whether it needs to be temporarily closed due to any potential risks. The main concern revolves around the condition of the roof, which has a Catalan vault, and it now needs to be inspected to see if it has suffered any damage that could lead to a collapse.

In October, it will be fifteen years since Francesc Cots, 62, has lived in a fisherman's shack in Cala Estreta, Palamós. He had previously spent three years sleeping in his car, but had to sell it to provide support to his ex-wife and so he could see his daughter. He lives without water or electricity. Also without money. He lives off what people passing through the cove give him.
