2025 will close with yet another stark reminder of the dangers faced by journalists. According to the latest report from Reporters Without Borders (RSF), 67 journalists (3 women and 64 men) have been killed this year. This data reaffirms that journalists continue to be persecuted and threatened, most often under authoritarian regimes and governments that violate the right to information. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been responsible for the deaths of 29 journalists, making this region the most dangerous in the world for this profession. Meanwhile, organized crime has positioned Mexico as the second most dangerous place in the world for journalists, with 9 deaths. RSF emphasizes that 2025 is the deadliest year for journalists in Mexico in the last three.

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and the citizen movement Avaaz have launched a global mobilization for this Monday with the aim of denouncing the deaths of journalists in the Gaza Strip and demand unrestricted access for the international press to the Palestinian territory. RSF reports that more than 150 media outlets from around fifty countries have joined the initiative. The daily ARA, which has been reporting on the conflict since day one and has already published editorials on several occasions about the State of Israel's actions that threaten the lives of journalists and freedom of information, has also joined.

Since the start of the offensive in October 2023, Israel has killed 238 Palestinian journalists working in Gaza, a figure reported by the Hamas-controlled Gaza government and endorsed by the United Nations (UN). Add to this Israel's ban on entry to international journalists, and the media blackout sought by the Netanyahu government to ensure impunity is almost total. Yet, despite professionals literally risking their lives, the images and data that continue to be disseminated speak for themselves: Israel is committing an inhumane genocide, starving a defenseless and exhausted population. This hunger and violence are also affecting journalists. No one escapes the policy of extermination that Israel is implementing in a devastated Gaza Strip.
