Every two weeks, Adrián and Daniel, two young men with intellectual disabilities, volunteer at a nursing home in Ávila to spend the afternoon with Luisa and Luciano, two elderly people who are single and have no close family. They do this thanks to the support of Respirávila and its project. I also do volunteer workSelected in the 2024 Castilla y León Social Projects Call for Proposals by the "la Caixa" Foundation. Coinciding with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, their story invites us to change our perspective: to move from seeing people with disabilities as mere recipients of aid to recognizing them as citizens with full rights and the capacity to assist others.

Except for the Gran Recapte (Great Food Drive) by the Banc dels Aliments (Food Bank), which aims to collect donations at various municipal markets and supermarkets across the country between Friday and Saturday. Symbolically, this solidarity event began Friday morning at the Mercat del Ninot in Barcelona, ​​in an event that kicks off a campaign that this year will have 15,800 volunteers spread across 2,000 donation points. The hybrid format remains, with both in-person collection of products and monetary donations earmarked for the purchase and subsequent distribution of food. Besides in-person donations at supermarkets, donations can also be made... through the Gran Recapte website until November 23.

We take the question Who, if not you? from the slogan with which the esplais movement sought to challenge young leaders at a meeting of educators. The intention was to empower them, to make them aware of their personal responsibility when it comes to educating children in camps and recreation centers. This expression motivates our reflection on World Youth Day, avoiding a negative, even realistic, analysis that lists the difficulties young people face today: working conditions when they work, housing, employability despite the high levels of training they have received, leisure time associated with substance use... We could reflect on so many circumstances that limit them from the opportunities that arise today.
