This was the question on everyone's lips at the presentation of the collective brand Miel de Apicultores y Apicultoras de Catalunya (MAAC), held at the Institut d'Estudis Catalans on Monday evening. One of those seeking out producers was a honey manager from the San Francisco farm, who expressed her surprise at seeing so many Catalan honeys displayed on a podium at the entrance to the event. "We've been able to make some Catalan honey a few years ago, but it's not always easy to find them," she said. Meanwhile, Àlex Sirera, president of the Association of Beekeepers and Apicultoras of Catalonia, was preparing to explain what honey is.

The Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food of the Government of Catalonia has launched the Honey Action Plan for Catalonia 2025-2028, which aims to strengthen the nutritional value of Catalan honey. According to the Minister of Agriculture, Òscar Ordeig: "Honey is a heritage of Catalan cuisine and plays a major role in gastronomy," and therefore, its production and consumption are to be promoted.
