Important change in the awarding of teaching positions for the next academic year. The Department of Education has modified the resolution that set the criteria for determining the distribution of vacant positions in schools and institutes among teachers for the 2026-2027 academic year. As the ARA has been able to confirm, the novelty is that, unlike what was specified in the initial resolution, next academic year directors will be able to make continuity proposals for interim teachers. That is, a director will be able to propose that an interim teacher who is already at their center can continue teaching at the same school or institute for the next academic year.

A new opportunity for temporary teachers in Catalan schools to secure permanent positions. As ARA has learned, this Tuesday morning the Government informed the education unions that make up the sectoral committee that a new competitive examination will be opened in March with a thousand vacancies.

Governments change hands and ministers change, but the Department of Education repeatedly botches up its performance. Perhaps the political class isn't getting ahead. Or perhaps there's a structural problem of malfunctioning within the department. Perhaps both. The fact is that the department's poor governance of the school world only provides additional and recurring reasons for complaint to a profession already sufficiently prone to defeatism.
