From the present, it may seem that we have never lived in such a dark era, with such an uncertain future and such accumulated hopelessness. If one looks back, however, insurrection has often taken hold of the streets of Barcelona. Sometimes, the response has been fierce repression—including executions—and without any victory for the insurgents. Other times, citizen mobilization has brought down governments and caused irreversible changes. In fact, many current rights would not exist without great mobilizations.

The Spanish government's left-wing allies are making their move in the case known as "The Swiss Six." This Wednesday, ERC, Podemos, EH-Bildu, and the BNG (National Liberation Front) presented a non-legislative motion in the Congress of Deputies requesting that Pedro Sánchez's administration grant a pardon to the six Asturian trade unionists who voluntarily entered prison a week ago after the defense judge and the Prosecutor's Office suspended their sentences.

Three and a half years in prison for six union members. They are known as the Swiss Six, who were sentenced for coercing the owner of a Gijón bakery. The six convicted men, five women and one man, were voluntarily imprisoned this Thursday after Gijón Court No. 1 rejected the request of the defense and the Prosecutor's Office to suspend the sentence and issued an arrest warrant and imprisonment order on Wednesday.
