After having incurred millionaire losses due to the fiasco of the PureTech gasoline engines in recent months, the Stellantis group faces a new industrial crisis that will involve the recall of more than 40,000 vehicles in Spain manufactured between 2023 and 2026 due to a fire risk alert for the new PureTech engines. This new warning, generated by the European Union's alert system (Safety Gate), affects about fifteen Stellantis group models that use the 1.2 PureTech gasoline engine associated with a semi-hybrid, light hybrid, or Mild Hybrid system.The problem that generates the risk of fire in models with this engine is the small space between the particle filter and the alternator, which, by generating high temperatures and not cooling down properly, can lead to a fire in the vehicle. The Setllantis group admits this risk, although it points out that so far only about a dozen vehicles have been recorded as having caught fire worldwide and states that it has already begun to contact buyers of the affected cars to carry out a revision.

Donald Trump's trade war is beginning to take its toll, especially in a sector like the automotive industry, which is not going through its best moment. Stellantis—parent company of brands such as Peugeot, Citroën, Opel, Fiat, and Jeep—recorded net losses of €2.3 billion in the first six months of 2025, compared to profits of €5.647 billion in the same period last year.

Few could have imagined the strategic error committed by Carlos Tavares, the former CEO of the Stellantis Group and parent company of the American brands Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, and RAM (among others), when he announced that he would retire the most polluting gasoline engines in order to invest in electric cars worldwide, including in the United States. That decision meant the retirement of the legendary HEMI V8 engine, a propulsion system that dates back to the mid-20th century and had become one of the cultural and social icons of the United States. The results were negative and immediate: sales of the group's brands fell dramatically in the United States, especially in the largest and most affordable car segments, precisely those that allow for the highest profit margins and have the greatest impact on the group's profits.

With the memory still fresh of The huge fiasco of the 1.2 PureTech engines, the automotive group Stellantis must now face a new challenge with the reliability problems of the 1.5 BlueHDI diesel engine manufactured between 2017 and 2023. These problems primarily affect models from the Citroën, Opel, Peugeot, DS, Fiat and even some Toyota models.
