This is the time a Catalan worker will have to wait before the trial for their dismissal begins. And it is not an isolated case: according to a report prepared by the UGT of Catalonia, among all dismissal cases that exceed six months of waiting – a time that the union considers "acceptable" for proceedings to begin – they are, on average, extended by 574 days, that is, one year and seven months. With the data from the study – which collects 1,499 cases – the UGT has denounced the delay that workers suffer once they initiate a lawsuit.

Bottazzini is leaving the Madrid-based company just over a year after his appointment, on the eve of the Christmas season, a crucial period for the retailer. According to the statement, the CEO's departure was "by mutual agreement" between both parties "after a period of reflection." The retailer has appointed Santiago Bau as CEO, with direct responsibility for all of the group's businesses, as well as the corporate and financial areas. Furthermore, Rafael Díaz Yeregui, currently deputy secretary of the board and general secretary of the company, will assume the roles of legal counsel, sustainability, and human resources directors. In both cases, these positions report directly to the board's monitoring committee, chaired by Marta Álvarez, the group's president.

Specifically, the plenary session of the Social Chamber of the SC, which met this Wednesday, concluded that the current compensation for unfair dismissal provided for in the Workers' Statute "cannot be increased through judicial means with other amounts," as the high court reported in a press release. Thus, it concludes that additional compensation cannot be decreed that exceeds the maximum amount set in the Workers' Statute.

This body falls under the Council of Europe and is responsible for ensuring that Member States comply with the European Social Charter. In an opinion published this Friday, the ECSR has once again made it clear that compensation paid after a worker loses their job is neither sufficient to compensate for the harm suffered nor to deter the employer from firing them.
