These words, spoken this Thursday by the PP spokesperson in the Andalusian Parliament, Toni Marín, exemplify the communication strategy employed by Juanma Moreno Bonilla's government regarding the Adamuz tragedy. All levels of government, including the Spanish government, "have risen to the occasion," Marín emphasized during his turn to speak, expressing his gratitude for the suspension of the plenary session initially scheduled for yesterday. Hours later, the Andalusian president himself chose not to engage with Isabel Díaz Ayuso's criticism of Pedro Sánchez's administration: "We recovered two bodies three hours ago. I'm not one for controversy; there will be time for an investigation later." The Andalusian PP's strategy serves to clearly differentiate itself from the national PP and, above all, from the Madrid president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who has stated that a "code of silence" has been imposed following the accident to cover up the Zapatero issue and has even suggested that the Andalusian and Spanish governments agreed to arrange the victims' funerals in Madrid.

However, the paradox is that public debate focuses almost exclusively on the Congress of Deputies and the central government. That is, until something like the DANA storm or the breast cancer screenings occur. It is then that PP voters discover that Pedro Sánchez isn't entirely to blame.

Ayuso's words, in language very similar to that of anti-abortion Catholic groups, have been surprising because they represent a change in the discourse of the Madrid president, who until now aligned herself with the party's more liberal theses and even distanced herself when she defended the right to abortion for minors. Her pronouncement forced Feijóo to issue a statement clarifying the party's position, which is to guarantee the right to abortion in accordance with the law.

This Tuesday, it presented its new political direction, which—following the trend of the right and far right in Europe—focuses on immigration and security policies. Pending amendments that PP members may submit, the PP proposes "eliminating the relationship between registration and access to non-contributory economic benefits for undocumented immigrants." In their opinion, "irregular status cannot generate rights," and they also intend to make "long-term residency conditional on effective contributions to the social security system and knowledge of the Spanish language and culture."
