A man attacked Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar while she was speaking at a town hall meeting Tuesday in Minneapolis. Omar, who represents Minnesota, was speaking from the podium when a man stood up in the audience and sprayed her. Police have not yet identified the type of liquid, but it appeared harmless because Omar continued speaking after security subdued the individual.

Unfortunately, the raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol (CBP) to indiscriminately capture immigrants are bringing these apocalyptic scenarios, where police violence is the norm, ever closer. The cold-blooded murder of Alex Pretti, a nurse protesting the raids in Minneapolis, has sparked a wave of outrage across the country. This incident follows the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good while she was arguing with an officer without leaving her vehicle. It also comes on the heels of the scandal surrounding the arrest of five-year-old Liam Ramos, who was taken home from school and used as bait to lure his father home.

Melissa Hortman, a Democratic congresswoman from Minnesota, and her husband were shot dead in their home, and another, John Hoffman, was seriously wounded. Hoffman's partner was also wounded but survived the shooting. Governor Tim Walz, a former Democratic vice presidential candidate, described the attack as an act of "political violence." Both lawmakers are members of the Farmer-Labor wing of the Democratic Party. ABC reports that the shooter was disguised as a police officer and is believed to have traveled between the two homes, about 10 miles apart. No further information has been released about the shooter's identity or motive.
