An Austrian court officer boarded a Ryanair plane due to the airline's failure to pay compensation to a passenger, the airport where the incident occurred on March 9 confirmed to EFE. The airline had refused to pay a traveler 890 euros in legal fees and compensation for a flight to Mallorca that was delayed two years ago. The dispute began in 2014 when a flight from Linz, Austria, to Palma was delayed by 13 hours. One of the passengers on the affected flight was forced to pay for an alternative flight and, at the same time, claimed reimbursement of her expenses and compensation, as stipulated by aviation regulations. However, Ryanair only refunded the original ticket and not the 250 euros in compensation for such cases or the compensation due for this type of delay, nor did they reimburse the additional 105 euros for the alternative ticket the passenger had to purchase.

The Supreme Court has ordered two gynecologists to pay €35,000 in damages to a patient for using forceps and vacuum extraction during her delivery without her consent or prior notification. The ruling clarifies that, even without medical negligence, the failure to inform her beforehand about the instruments to be used and the associated risks violated her right to informed consent. The woman who brought the case to the Supreme Court to establish this precedent was 29 years old in March 2014 when she gave birth to her son in a Madrid hospital. She had received prenatal care at the same hospital in the preceding months, and all tests had come back normal. After three hours of contractions, the doctors attending her during the delivery used a vacuum extractor and forceps to deliver the baby. The postpartum period in the hospital went well, and after a few days, the woman was discharged. However, a year later, she was still experiencing pain in the episiotomy scar from her delivery. After trying various treatments, the pelvic pain persisted, and when her son was three years old, she filed a malpractice lawsuit.

The Supreme Court (SC) rejects additional increases to compensation for unfair dismissal. Specifically, the plenary session of the Social Chamber of the SC, which met this Wednesday, concluded that the current compensation for unfair dismissal provided for in the Workers' Statute "cannot be increased through judicial means with other amounts," as the high court reported in a press release. Thus, it concludes that additional compensation cannot be decreed that exceeds the maximum amount set in the Workers' Statute.

The European Committee of Social Rights (ECSR) is once again raising eyebrows in Spain, considering that dismissals in the Spanish state are too cheap. This body falls under the Council of Europe and is responsible for ensuring that Member States comply with the European Social Charter. In an opinion published this Friday, the ECSR has once again made it clear that compensation paid after a worker loses their job is neither sufficient to compensate for the harm suffered nor to deter the employer from firing them.

This June, the Archdiocese of Barcelona began paying the first compensation payments to victims of sexual abuse in the Church. Last year, following the cases reported over the past few years and the reports on abuse in the Church made by the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE) and the Ombudsman, the comprehensive reparation plan for minor victims of sexual abuse, known as PRIVA, was implemented. Since its creation, the CEE's Comprehensive Reparation Advisory Commission has reviewed each case of individuals who reported having suffered abuse within the Catholic Church in Spain and are seeking compensation.
