La Energética, the public electricity company of the Generalitat (Catalan government), has shortlisted four projects from among those submitted in the second public call for the purchase of solar farms with a capacity of up to 5 megawatts (MW). The facilities are located in the municipalities of Les Oluges (La Segarra), Sant Pere Sallavinera (Anoia), Casserres (Berguedà), and Vilanova d'Escornalbou (Baix Camp), according to the company.

An increasingly worrying electricity deficit and the decommissioning of nuclear power plants—last year they produced more than 50% of the energy consumed in Catalonia—have put us on alert. And all that was missing was the recent major blackout. Catalonia consumes more electricity than it generates. In 2024, electricity consumption in the Principality was 44.1 TWh, while production stood at 37.4 TWh, representing a deficit of 15.19%.

The executive council of the Generalitat has approved a decree law that declares of superior public interest theelectrical storage with batteriesIt is the first Spanish administration to take this step, which is key to streamlining the processing of these facilities and providing security and stability to renewable energy. The decree-law seeks, on the one hand, to regulate and incentivize batteries and, on the other, to accelerate the energy transition and streamline the processing of solar, wind, and storage farm projects under the jurisdiction of the Generalitat (Catalan Government).
