“I don't remember any year of my life that I haven't come to Vilosell,” says Georgina González. For her, returning every summer to her family's hometown is much more than a tradition. It's a part of her life. There are lunches with friends, sunsets, and summer festivals. And, over the years, she has also found her own group of friends, one of those things that are not always easy to build in a small town.

Carme Crespo has dedicated many years to marketing and advertising, but she never thought she would end up being the manager and director of the Itinera Festival. “Directing this project is one of those things that life puts in front of you when you least expect it,” she confesses. Itinera was born in 2021, in the midst of the pandemic, on the initiative of Marcel Marata. It has been two and a half years since Marcel died in a traffic accident, just as he was heading to the opening ceremony of the 4th edition of the Festival. Carme Crespo, his wife, decided to take over. “From the first moment, I was clear that it could not stop. Firstly, because I believed in it deeply; I had been very involved and helped in every way I could. But above all because he felt immensely proud to have created it,” she declares.

According to the foundation that represents them, microvillages are municipalities with fewer than a thousand inhabitants, occupying half of our country's territory and home to only 2.4% of the population. This represents a large part of rural Catalonia, which is experiencing demographic and economic recession.

After celebrating its fifth edition as a traveling festival through several Empordà municipalities, the Empordà Microvillages Performing Arts Festival (FASTT) has prepared a record-breaking edition with a lineup of 13 shows. This year, the festival is expanding once again and will take place between June 27 and July 27 in eleven municipalities with fewer than 1,000 inhabitants: Agullana, Espolla (a new FASTT municipality), Garrigàs, Ordis, Puente de Molins, Rabós, Sant Climent Sescebes, Siurana, and Vilamacolum.
