This February, the British audiovisual corporation announced a cost-cutting plan of more than 600 million pounds, which will translate, mainly, into job losses and the cancellation of some of its programs. Tim Davie, who was still director-general, warned that the company had to cut 10% of its cost base over the next three years if it wanted to ensure stability, and this has translated into this announcement of 2,000 layoffs, almost 10% of the 21,500 it has in total.

The British presenter and naturalist has transformed the way we look at the planet through his documentaries. He has dedicated more than seventy years to television, from the BBC, travelling around the world to teach us about wildlife and make us aware of the climate crisis and biodiversity loss. To celebrate his birthday, however, Sir David has stayed home to discover the fauna of the city of London for us. Wild London (Londres salvaje) you will find it on Movistar+. At Hammersmith station, you will see how pigeons have learned to travel by tube to find food on the next platform, and you will contemplate the growth and first flights of a peregrine falcon chick in front of Charing Cross Hospital. You will also see a young doe learning to walk among the trees of Harold Hill and the risks faced by a pair of toads crossing the road in Ealing.London is the city with the most gardens per square kilometre. It has four million private gardens that have fragmented the territory. But the desire to maintain native fauna has created an extraordinary circuit for hedgehogs to maintain their social life. Sir David Attenborough patiently awaits the arrival of a pair of foxes just before sunset. The charm of Wild London is that, despite being an urban landscape, the narrative codes of wildlife documentaries in the most distant and remote places on the planet are maintained. The fight between coots on a lake in a London park will have the epic of the confrontations we have seen on other occasions in the African savannah. The struggle for territory does not change. A dragonfly nymph mercilessly devours a tadpole in the depths of a pond in the South Kensington Natural History Museum. The mating of two slugs near Buckingham Palace is of extraordinary visual poetry. As with all BBC nature documentaries, there is a clear aesthetic desire to explain urban wildlife. And however annoying the tens of thousands of London parakeets may be, their flight over a cemetery and their collective rest on a tree are of extraordinary beauty.Sir David also explains how the effects of pollution and the heat from the asphalt will have consequences for the insects that live alongside pedestrians. Near a pub, with humans having a beer, bees are also victims of the effects of alcohol in a very curious way. If you ever take a walk along Regent's Canal, it will be inevitable that you think of the snakes that inhabit the undergrowth. Wild London is a very different tour of the city, which surely makes it seem friendlier than it is. But in such a turbulent era when the world is so violent and discouraging, Attenborough's documentaries serve to regain an attentive and humble look at life.

Now, however, it does so not in series format but as a feature film. Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man premieres on Friday on Netflix with much of the original cast, led by Cillian Murphy, an Oscar winner for Oppenheimer. The Irish actor once again takes on the role of Thomas Shelby, the charismatic mobster whom viewers accompanied as he managed illegal betting, arms trafficking, and horse racing, and fought against other mafias. The series ended with Shelby imposing exile on himself, and this is precisely the starting point of the film written by Steven Knight, creator of the original fiction.

https://en.ara.cat/media/the-harrowing-bbc-documentary_129_5659237.html

During these four years of Russian invasion of Ukraine, we have mainly seen productions that humanized the Ukrainian army, showing the atrocities they suffered at the front and the survival of civilians in destroyed cities. This Tuesday, the BBC broadcast a documentary that focused on the other side: The Zero Line. Inside russia’s war. The result is chilling, as it denounces how the Russian army has gone beyond all law and common sense. It was recorded thanks to the testimony of civilians and soldiers who secretly recorded videos to support their stories. One of them states: "Your adversary is in front of you. But your enemy is the commander behind you." The high command of the Russian army leads its own soldiers to death, using them as mere useful cannon fodder. Military jargon calls it "meat storms." To refer to the sacrifice of their men, they use the word zero: the heads of each unit designate which soldiers are to be zeroed for the benefit of military tactics. The documentary includes images captured by drones showing these types of operations: groups of men are sent to the zero line – the one in contact with the enemy – to be shot at. This way, they identify the positions of the Ukrainian army and ensure that their ammunition is depleted. The battle is presented as a simple matter of numbers. The testimonies alternate with propaganda videos disseminated through Russian media to recruit more men. New soldiers who, as is easy to deduce, will also be sent against the enemy to keep the troops replenished. The horror of the documentary does not end here. The Zero Line. Inside russia’s war shows the cruel repression against dissidents. They can be humiliated at the front if they refuse to kill or move to the zero line. There are terrible images of naked, starving soldiers locked in an underground pit in the middle of the forest. They are thrown crumbs of food to humiliate them. They also explain how, before annihilating some Russian soldiers, they take their bank cards to empty their bank accounts. The stories of civilians who have demonstrated against the war or denounced the Bucha massacre are no different. They are arrested, raped, tortured, and sentenced to years in prison. Some of these actions have been recorded by the army itself to make videos out of them. The testimony of their partners is tragic and contrasts with the happiness reflected in old mobile phone recordings from before the war. They are Russians, victims of their country. A harrowing documentary of great informational value. The BBC has managed to provide, on an emblematic date of the conflict, a powerful narrative. It contrasts with the cowardly approach of TV3, which, on the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion, dedicated "Sense ficció" to Steven Spielberg's film "Tauró,a testament to the journalistic ambition of our public television.

Trump is seeking $10 billion in damages, approximately €8.51 billion. The lawsuit allocates $5 billion for alleged defamation and another $5 billion for violations of Florida's law on deceptive and unfair business practices. Initially, Trump threatened the network with a $1 billion lawsuit, and later $5 billion. Now he has doubled down. The lawsuit alleges that the program's producers edited a speech Trump gave on January 6, 2021, when he had The assault on the Capitol has begun. by violent supporters of the Republican. Last month, the BBC already apologized for splicing together two separate excerpts of the president's remarks in the report, fifty minutes apart. The failure to indicate the time difference could give the impression that Trump had called for violence. The result, the network admitted, could be misleading. However, the court document maintains that it was not an innocent mistake, but a "false, misleading, and malicious representation" intended to politically damage Donald Trump.

The long-time host of the British program Match of the day Gary Lineker has announced his departure from the BBC following a social media post in which he criticized Israel with an image considered an anti-Semitic cliché (which he claims he was unaware of). Although Lineker had already planned to retire next year, the incident has accelerated the process, and his last program is expected to be this Sunday, May 25, concluding a 26-year career with the English public broadcaster. This decision also means that he will not present coverage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as initially planned.
