In Cambodia, the totalitarian frenzy to create a "new society" led to the murder of all those deemed unworthy of being part of it. Between 1975 and 1978, between 1.5 and 2.2 million people were murdered, and official data speak of some twenty thousand mass graves scattered throughout the country.

It seems like it's all about to start this week. This is the case with the school year, which in Catalonia will be held without cell phones, which may not even be used for educational purposes. This correction is welcome, even if it brings us back to the pendulum law. There were years when, if there were no screens in schools, we were missing the boat on educational modernity, and now, frightened by the consequences of screen dependence, we ban them. That's fine, but everyone knows the problem is deeper: if screens devour the students' parents (which is what happens), they end up devouring the students.

Twenty-four hours after Alberto Núñez Feijóo stated at the PP congress that his preference is a solo government open to agreements with everyone except Bildu, the party's new secretary general, Miguel Tellado, sought to elevate what was merely a wish into a firm electoral commitment not to share a government with the far right. "There will be no coalition government," he said in a conversation with reporters. The fact that this commitment was made the day after the congress and not during the conclave, as would have been logical, and that Tellado did not want to verbalize it on camera, undermines the credibility of the announcement. What's worse, it demonstrates that the PP still has no clear position on the matter. So much so that the new PP spokesperson, Esther Muñoz, had not ruled out, shortly before Tellado's remarks, the possibility of Santiago Abascal eventually becoming Feijóo's vice president. At the closing ceremony of the PP congress, Alberto Núñez Feijóo expressed his desire to govern alone. However, the PP leader raised this as an aspiration without closing the door to other possibilities. Less than 24 hours later, the PP affirmed that forming a solo government is a compromise. "There will be no coalition government," said the party's new secretary general, Miguel Tellado, who asserted that before governing with Vox, they will seek a repeat election. Tellado said this in an informal conversation with journalists after Monday's press conference in Génova, but he avoided confirming it when asked while the cameras were recording him. He had just pulled off a major upset, having regained, against all odds—and against the party apparatus—the leadership of the PSOE, from which he had been ousted months earlier. When the PP leader made the leap into national politics in 2022, he was accompanied by Tellado. Once Feijóo was ratified as president of the PP, replacing Pablo Casado, he surrounded himself with his Galician core group in Génova. One of those loyalists is Tellado, who left his seat as regional deputy and the party's general secretary in Galicia to move to Madrid. Once in the Spanish capital, Tellado has performed all the Auca roles that Feijóo has decided to entrust him with. The most recent, and the one that has made him most famous, is that of spokesperson in Congress, where he has been known for employing a tough tone and constantly clashing with the Socialists. In the new era that the PP is embarking on, starting with this weekend's congress, Feijóo is bringing him back to put internal order and prepare the party to achieve the coveted goal of reaching the Moncloa Palace.

Alberto Núñez Feijóo's ability to repeatedly stumble over the same stone, which is none other than parliamentary arithmetic, is truly astonishing.
