Among others, and perhaps the most captivating, is that of Jane Austen. Examples abound throughout her work. The very essence of the garden. Austenian It would be the garden of her home in Chawton, a village in Hampshire, in southern England, about 95 km southwest of London. The writer lived there for seven years, and in the garden she cultivated flowers and vegetables.

With these words, writer Dolly Alderton announced that she was working on an adaptation ofPride and Prejudice for Netflix that will have Jack Lowden (from Slow horses) and Emma Corrin (from The Crown) as protagonists. As the author, winner of the National Book Award for Everything I know about love, almost every generation has their own version of the Jane Austen classic and their favorite Mr. Darcy. The platform's interest in bringing the novel to the screen in miniseries format is further proof that Jane Austen, whose 250th anniversary is celebrated this year, is more fashionable than ever. Fans of the English author even have their own nickname: some prefer to be called Janeitas and those who are inclined to austenites.

It is estimated that there were around 3,000. Years after her death, her sister Cassandra burned most of them. Only about 160 have survived. The loss of all this epistolary material has prevented a more in-depth study of the writer's personality and environment. But what has been perceived as a literary sacrilege has also served to inspire others to investigate the reasons behind the disappearance of her correspondence. Cassandra's family reputation would suffer if the letters were made public. This narrative void is what the series attempts to fill. Miss Austen (Movistar+), based on the novel by Gill Hornby and which explores the events that worried Jane's sister.

The opening scene, in which a romantic, literary-wounded bookseller played by Camille Rutherford performs a dance as clumsy as it is charming among the crowded shelves of the bookstore where she works, allows the protagonist to connect with the characteristic female archetype that, in Ephron's films, was embodied by Meg Ryan: young women who fit in with the times they live in.
