The Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) arrested a 56-year-old man on February 6th in Amposta, in the Montsià region, for practicing dentistry in an apartment under "unsanitary" conditions and without the required qualifications or professional registration, the Catalan police reported on Wednesday. The detainee is accused of practicing dentistry without a license and was brought before the duty judge in the municipality. One of his patients reported in January that he suspected the man was practicing illegally because he held consultations in a room of the same apartment where he lived and always worked alone; only occasionally did his wife assist him. According to EFE, the building suffered a fire that damaged the apartment, yet the fake dentist assured this patient that he would treat him anyway, even though the room had no ceiling and the floor was covered in ashes. The victim did not complete the treatments, even though they had paid for them in full upfront and in cash, and contacted the Official College of Dentists and Stomatologists of Catalonia, where it was confirmed that the person was not registered. The Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) opened an investigation that confirmed the reported facts and arrested the man, who had already been charged in 2024 in Amposta for similar offenses and at that time stated that he had no qualifications to practice as a dentist.
