In Scarlet, Mamoru Hosoda It draws inspiration from Shakespeare's immortal text, although it takes considerable liberties, such as changing the name and gender of the main character to transform her into a medieval princess who travels through time and space in a purgatory to bring to justice those who murdered her and her father. Unlike its literary model, Scarlet She doesn't need any specter to drive her to revenge; she alone possesses a rage of epic proportions, as befits the emotions that characterize adolescence, which is precisely the territory most frequently explored by the director of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and The Boy and the Beast.

This event has long been the second most popular cultural event in Barcelona – with over 167,000 people attending last year – second only to Primavera Sound. With Saturday and Sunday tickets sold out well in advance, it's likely that attendance records will be broken again this year. We highlight ten highlights from its program.

What began as a Japanese series about pirates has become in a global emblem of political resistancePopular culture, often dismissed as light entertainment, has seeped into the realm of protest and dissent. As researcher Alba Torrents, lecturer at the Faculty of Communication Studies at the UAB and expert in Japanese animated series, explains, "l'anime It has become a global cultural language: it is no longer just a Japanese entertainment product, but a shared space in which new generations project common values, emotions, and imaginaries.” Corruption. Truckers, students, and artists began to raise the pirate icon as a symbol of unity and defiance against the government. Its spread was meteoric: in a few days, the Jolly Roger The pirate flag (traditionally known as the "pirate flag," typically featuring a black background and a skull and crossbones) spread from social media to the streets, to the point that some authorities labeled it a threat to national unity. Despite attempts at censorship and official warnings, the flag became established as a shared language of dissent and political creativity.

Puig is referring to the programming of a concert never before seen in Europe: that of Seatbelts, who will perform on December 5 at Manga Barcelona alongside their leader and musical director, Yoko Kanno. The group will perform one of the most acclaimed soundtracks in the history of anime, that of Cowboy BebopThis is an exceptional event, the first time the band has performed outside of Japan. "It's something unique," Puig remarks.

But we should start making room for another cat, the one that gives its name to Anzu, ghost cat: a huge, laughing, flatulent anthropomorphic feline who lives in a small town on the Japanese coast and almost always travels by motorcycle. The only person surprised by the presence of this beast is Karin, a teenager who, disliked by her father, leaves her in the care of her grandfather while he looks for a way to pay off his gambling debts. After the initial shock, Karin befriends Anzu, with whom she spends time during the long summer days and with whom she ends up taking a trip to the underworld in search of her mother, who died a few years before.
