Or to put it another way: what an individual represents in the social subconscious will always redefine any project they wish to champion. Not only is he an arrogant person who treats people like idiots, but the charitable initiative ceases to be a charitable act and becomes a device designed to clean up the image of the fraudster who created it. No one makes stylistic decisions to stay home alone. This week we had an example of redefinition through the transmission of person-object values that, if style studies were serious, they would incorporate into their syllabi forever. at the 2025 Met Gala Georgina Rodríguez wanted to pay homage to none other than Lady Di. But not in a subtle way, something that could have been achieved with enough money for the production and a good media campaign, but in an obvious way. That is, by copying. In fact, the term to pay homage has come from the environment of Cristiano Ronaldo's wife, but if we practice journalism we should use the term emulateAnd if we take into account the final result, we should use the verb parody.

A gala that aims, on the one hand, to raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and, on the other, to inaugurate the exhibition that the museum's Costume Institute dedicates annually to the history and reflection on the field of fashion. The uniqueness of this red carpet (which in this case was blue with white daffodils, in keeping with the narcissism that characterizes our society) is the fact that, unlike film festivals, it doesn't seek to have celebrities display their hegemonic beauty in conservative and predictable outfits. The Met Gala, on the contrary, rewards what we socially tend to punish: taking the risk of difference and transgression in fashion. Furthermore, one of the defining factors of the gala's dress code is knowing how to establish conceptual and aesthetic connections with the theme of the exhibition being inaugurated. And what was this year's theme? Well, under the title Tailored for you (tailored for you), the exhibition delves into Black dandyism and the use this group has made of tailoring as a weapon of struggle. But what is a dandy really, and why is it necessary to differentiate between the Black people who have been part of this counterculture?

For the first time in several years, the guests seemed to understand the theme the gala was proposing to them. dress code And, consequently, the carpet of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, which hosts the festival, was filled with interesting proposals that did justice to this year's exhibition. This year, the objective was to vindicate the figure of the Black dandy and recognize the African-American contribution to the world of fashion, the common thread of the exhibition. Superfine: Tailoring black style, which traces the history of clothing made and worn by people of African descent and can be seen at the museum from May 10 to October 26. Guests attending the gala were required to dress according to the theme "Tailor-made for you" (Tailored for you) and many have fulfilled the request, making nods to menswear and tailoring.
