The city of Girona has begun implementing a new waste collection system using smart containers. From now on, there will be a separate container for each type of waste, and residents can dispose of their waste any day of the week and at any time of day. An identification card is still required to open the containers.

A surprising and unprecedented portrait of King Felipe VI has presided over the plenary hall of Girona City Hall since Monday. It is a photograph of the monarch created from a combination of images from the October 1 referendum in the city, which, when placed side by side, draw the silhouette of the Bourbon.

Far from a dull, drab city, Girona has gained life and dynamism over the years, understanding itself as a space for shared living, learning, and wealth generation in the broadest sense of the term. We've grown from 60,000 to 110,000 inhabitants in just over 40 years, which brings with it both challenges and opportunities. From the city government, we've faced this future by working with three very clear objectives: 1) that all policy focuses on improving people's lives; 2) that Girona preserves its identity; and 3) that the future city is increasingly connected to its natural environment and its urban area.

Instead of showing on-screen photos of cars crammed into the riverbank, the Argentine news program depicts the downpours with the Onyar River, at the height of Girona's iconic colorful houses, filled with cars swept away by the force of the river. What Argentines perceived as just another piece of news, for Girona residents—when the video spread on social media—was a demonstration of the extent to which images generated by artificial intelligence can alter our perception of reality and generate misinformation.
