Vania Arana was born in Peru in the late sixties, but she has been living in Catalonia for over thirty years. She arrives at the interview wearing a green t-shirt with the phrase: "Organize yourself if you don't want to be organized." It is the motto of Las Kellys, the union she presides over, which brings together hotel maids, that is, women who, like her, clean hotels.

In recent years, housekeepers have experienced an increase in workload and a reduction in the time available to clean a room, which puts their health at risk. Around 2014, some housekeepers gathered through social media to gain visibility and support each other regarding their work situation. In 2015, they decided to form several regional groups throughout Spain, which now operate independently.
