He said this at an event organized by the sector's employers' association, Fecav, which this Tuesday presented – together with the Terminus Transport Studies Centre – the book L'autobús i l'autocar a Catalunya, the first publication to cover the entire history of the sector, written by expert Joan Carles Salmerón. At the event, the Secretary of Mobility addressed the assembled entrepreneurs, to whom he also set homework.

From six in the evening onwards, it becomes an unstoppable hive of activity: buses double-parked, horns blaring, and passengers rushing from work to get home to the various towns in the Garraf region, where these buses serve. Where three buses used to stop, up to six now stop—double the usual number. The reason? Once again, the economic crisis and the commuter rail construction.

The train arrives—already quite full—and barely manages to absorb all the passengers on the platform, which is now clear. But the scene is short-lived. Seconds later, a new wave of people, practically a hundred, passes through the access gates and gets off onto the platform. A little while later, another group joins them. In a matter of minutes, the platform is packed again until another train arrives. The scene is reminiscent of the rhythm of queues at an amusement park or the impossible intersections of Tokyo, and it repeats itself tirelessly every 3 minutes. That is, the time it takes for the train to arrive during rush hour.

The company has implemented a novel solution for the city: starting January 26, the H12 will receive a special reinforcement of eight additional buses on the central section of the line, between Plaça de les Glòries and Plaça Cerdà. "This is the part of the route with the highest demand," according to sources at the operator. This is one of the main measures included in the new Bus Agenda 2026-2030, which TMB presented this Thursday morning, and the one that will be implemented most quickly, within 15 days. This injection of buses on the central section of the line will reduce the frequency from the current 8 minutes to "5 minutes or less" and increase passenger capacity by 15%. Furthermore, the fact that there are more trains covering the same route and stops, but only on a specific section of the line, opens the door for TMB to consider other, more targeted improvements at the beginning and end, such as the line (which actually starts in Gornal and runs to Besòs Verneda) having double trains at more stations.

"I have three options; all of them terrible. The first is to take the early morning bus, the 5:30 a.m. one, which runs along the old road. But it makes more than 10 stops, enters the towns, and the journey is extremely long: a long two and a half hours if everything goes well to get to work. It feels like an eternity," she explains. "Then there's another option, at 6:30 a.m., but I always rule this one out because it's only available during school hours, for students. It goes through Bellaterra and means more hours of travel, so I wouldn't make it on time," she continues. "So I usually take the 6:45 a.m. bus from Andorra, which is semi-direct, but it drops me off at 9:15 a.m., if all goes well and it's not full or delayed, at Bonanova, which means I'm late for work," explains this local resident, who works in the sector, who works in the sector, who works in the sector, who works in the sector, who works in the sector, "working from the bus with my laptop" despite being somewhat late. "If I have meetings, I don't take any chances and I go down by car, although I would prefer to go by public transport," she explains.
