Around the year 2000, it affected approximately 23% of the world's population, but projections indicate that by 2050 almost half of humanity could be myopic. In any case, this rapid increase in myopia may have more to do with how we use our eyes indoors than with screen use. This is according to a study by [the relevant organization/institution]. SUNY College of OptometryPublished in the journal Cell Reports. Specifically, the researchers explain that looking very closely in low-light environments causes the retina to receive less stimulation, which could contribute to myopia.

This year's selections include 15 projects led by researchers from 13 Catalan research centers. Among the projects selected this year are some that could transform cancer treatment: from non-invasive blood tests for advanced lung cancer to immunotherapies based on modified cells for aggressive childhood tumors. A new digital solution for treating complex wounds has also been developed, which will improve support for healthcare professionals. In women's health, an innovative mesh for pelvic organ prolapse is being presented; in the field of genetic diseases, progress is being made toward safer RNA-based therapies; and in the area of neurodegenerative diseases, toward the early detection of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

These figures reflect the importance of the healthcare sector, surpassed only by tourism and commerce. It is a "fantastic" model, but one that is becoming "obsolete," according to Núria Mas, professor of economics at the Jaime Grego Chair of Global Healthcare Management at Iese. Measures are therefore needed to strengthen it in a context dominated by population aging and its effects. Ending underfunding is one of the essential objectives, considering that more than 72% of spending corresponds to the public sector. One of the keys is the alliance with the private sector.

For decades, she has been studying the immune system to determine its role in aging and find the elixir that will delay this process and all the diseases associated with it. Her research has shown that immune cells, specifically T lymphocytes, are the philosopher's stone of the body's resilience to the passage of time.
