The very next day after the most allergic Saint George's Day, when even pharmacies made a fortune thanks to the sale of antihistamines and throat lozenges, Com si fos ahir offered us a surprising sequence. A kind of prophecy like Nostradamus's, which enshrines the series' screenwriters in the Olympus of the most opportune predictors and seers. It's about a scene in which Ivan (Roger Coma) walks through a park with Kilian (Albert Prat), an expert gardener with whom he is starting a relationship. They are getting to know each other, and Kilian is illustrating him on arboriculture in this phase of seducing each other and sharing their passions. He explains: “The quintessential Barcelona tree is the plane tree. In the sixties, they didn't know how to plant anything else. The grace is that they grow very quickly and provide a lot of shade, but they also make a lot of mess. The leaves, those little balls that people quite dislike... In fact, in some cities they are already starting to replace them because they cause a lot of allergies.” We can attest to that. Months before this Saint George's Day so saturated with particles, the screenwriters anticipated the news. And fate has made a filler dialogue, which only served to slightly prolong the conflict, has ended up grabbing our attention due to its link with the most immediate current events. Barcelona's plane trees were one of the protagonists of the day and were being talked about in news programs and magazines. Perhaps what some experts dared not say for fear of angering environmentalists was warned to us in the midday series: that in other cities around the world they have already been replaced by less irritating species. It's good to know. And in this context of prophecies amidst books and legends, it is appropriate to recommend the documentary The War of the Worlds: A Prophetic Novel, which you can find on Movistar+. It makes sense that, at a time of disillusionment and great international conflict, the novel that disturbed the world and revolutionized literature should emerge. The documentary analyzes it through multiple expert voices: writers, biographers, historians, essayists, researchers, NASA professors, and science experts, who demonstrate how the story of the Martian invasion has connected with the fears of different generations. It takes a look at the past to understand the social context that motivated H.G. Wells to write the novel between 1895 and 1897, but it uses images from the present to connect with current events. “No one would have believed in the advancement of that uneasy human world that, for all its progress in physical science, remained so preposterously ignorant of the possibility of the invasion of the earth by intelligences from Mars. [...] With the same placidity the human race went about its terrestrial occupations, cherishing its delusions of dominion over matter.” The documentary lists the enemies that have been symbolically intuited behind these invading Martians and how art, cinema, illustration, comics, and literature have adapted The War of the Worlds to speak to us of the dangers of each era. Without a doubt, a good time to delve deeper into it.

An unbearable toll. Also the budget limitations, which are evident with the lack of sets that seem to condition and limit the plot lines. Master of Ceremonies had a pace of acceleration worthy of theCatch me if you can. He seemed to be in a hurry, conveying a chaotic feeling. The final straw was Jaume Borja, with an inexplicable need to end every intervention by shouting and with an overacting and exaggerated assessment that recalls old-fashioned television. Ester Pagès, always impeccable in The Jungle, was swept away by the show. Her role was the most interesting because it gave more depth to the series, and instead, she was relegated to a supporting role.

First, there was Silvia, who succumbed to the digital flirtation of a man who wanted to buy a lamp from her online. And it turns out she ended up screwing her brother-in-law, one of them. fretsaw The category of those who snatch everything they can through mobile apps. We also suffered the grotesque plot of cousins Gina and Lídia, who both became involved with the same criminal. One of the so-called "love scammers" who wanted to take their money. He entangled them to an unprecedented level, and both gave in to suspicious demands for money, which they accepted with unprecedented innocence. In recent weeks, we've updated our bookmarks with Eugeni's plot. A mass-conspirator who dedicates himself to captivating women by exhibiting such exaggerated flattering oratory that it seems impossible for him to catch them three at a time. Gemma, Celia, and Cristina have already been to the hotel room the individual uses as a rabbit hole. We could still place Patri in this category, who only needed to meet an arrogant activist a couple of times to dump her boyfriend. It turns out that with the defender of noble causes, she establishes a toxic relationship that the girl can't identify: she has submissively faced the constant scorn and unjustified outbursts of indignation that point to clear psychological abuse. It was already difficult for Eva to get rid of the armless man who was taking advantage of her by acting as his personal assistant. Now all that's missing is Marta, who, inexplicably, ends up calling the abuser of her foster son because he's had a problem with the car. Mind-blowing. In other words, when she feels most unprotected, lost on a lonely road, she has no better idea than to ask for help from the man who has just been released from prison for serious domestic violence, the bastard who has terrorized and blackmailed the teenager she loves like a son. And when it comes to asking for a spark to power the car, more than an existential dilemma, she seems to feel seduced by an aggressor. All of them, except Patri, are already somewhat experienced and already know the drill in relationships with men.

https://en.ara.cat/media/the-cousins-from-just-like-it-was-yesterday_129_5323461.html

One of the most delirious plots of the last months of the As if it were yesterday It is, without a doubt, that of the cousins, Lidia and Gina, involved with the same lover and con man of women. Introducing into the story a character of those that the media calls "love swindler" is not bad, basically because we have been able to see in the news and in reports how these individuals exist and often get away with it. Constructing the story in duplicate has already been something daring, but then the series has ended up doomed to Turkification. It's all been so exaggerated, forced and melodramatic that As if it were yesterday It already seems like an over-the-top Turkish soap opera. First, the cousins' rivalry over the inheritance, and then Lidia's unprecedented and surreal seduction of Gina's husband. We deduce that the trick served to provide an escape route for Jordi, who has disappeared (temporarily?) from the series. Then, both women recommended a dating app to each other and made a strange pact: they decided not to talk to each other about their romantic relationships, given their tendency to be attracted to the same type of man. Strange. From then on, we entered the dynamic of the romantic scammer playing out in parallel, as he deceived them and obtained duplicate transfers. The discovery of the farce already had the air of a soap opera with Lidia fainting in the middle of the street. Chapter by chapter, things degenerated further and further. The Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) planned to use Marta as decoy to catch the scammer. caught red-handed It was already quite implausible. The Mossos d'Esquadra, by the way, are coming across as inept. They organize a reckless trap to arrest the swindler, but he ultimately escapes in the middle of the street because the cousins, in a state of hysteria worthy of a bad José Mota sketch, attack the thief with bags while the police try to take him to the station. Not to mention the failure and apathy of the Mossos d'Esquadra in the case of the drug-dealing bar where minors are used. Continuing with the cousins, the sad role of these two female characters is alarming. And especially that of Gina, who has more narrative scope in the series, yet has ended up in a role that doesn't fit her character's character. It's already clear that the threats and chases through the streets were meant to add some suspense and action to the show. As if it were yesterday, which from time to time needs a bit of a shake-up to avoid falling into the usual boredom. But the final absurdity was confirmed in the final minutes of this Friday's episode. That last-minute twist was the height of absurdity. Rather than stimulating the viewer's unease or empathy, what it does is drag them into mockery and fuss. The plot degenerates into the level of the most histrionic soap operas. With the plot of the cousins of As if it were yesterday have dragged the viewer into hate-watching, where you get hooked on the series to laugh at the script's sloppiness. Or maybe that's what it's all about...
