The Catalan financial system is experiencing a new phase that could lead to the loss of the only major bank with its headquarters, Sabadell, which was reclaimed last January after more than seven years in Alicante due to the Process and the referendum. Now, the takeover bid (OPA) for BBVA and the planned subsequent merger are in the hands of the Spanish government. After analyzing the the responses to the unprecedented public consultation called by the executive, The Ministry of Economy has until next Tuesday, the 27th, to submit the file to the Council of Ministers. The Council must then decide whether to object to the merger based on "general interest" criteria, since the free competition criteria were resolved by the National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC) in a unanimous ruling on April 30th.

The Board of Directors of CaixaBank has appointed Amparo Moraleda as Vice President of the bank. An independent director since 2014, the former president of IBM in Spain is the first woman to hold this position at the bank, founded in 2011 and spun off from the former Caja de Pensiones (Cash Bank). Moraleda, chosen following a favorable report from the Appointments and Sustainability Committee, fills the vacancy left by Tomàs Muniesa, a longtime resident who has served as the bank's non-executive chairman since January 1.

Caixa Ingenieros' net profit soared last year to €24 million, a 22.3% increase compared to 2023 and an unprecedented level for the bank. The results, which add to the record already recorded in the previous year, are the first under Juanjo Llopis as CEO, who replaced Joan Cavallé on January 1st, who had held the position for nineteen years. The bank recorded a turnover of €8.581 billion, up 5.4%, and an interest income of €76.2 million, up 14.9%.
