"We called him, but he didn't answer. He's gone," he says. He and his family lived in the illegal campsite that the police evicted this Monday on rural land in Mataró. According to census data, 85 people were living there, and another 44 were undergoing the registration process. However, more people were reportedly spending the night at this campsite, which Barcelona's first investigating court ordered to be evicted. "Suddenly, we found ourselves on illegal land," another man complains, saying he feels deceived.

The blaze broke out just after 3:00 a.m. for reasons still under investigation and started in a burning caravan. The only casualty was a dog, Mia, who began barking before dying, allowing her family to escape the caravan. "Mia has saved many lives," her owner explained dejectedly this afternoon. Just as everyone was out, the roof collapsed, trapping the dog.

The executive branch will approve this Tuesday a decree-law of urgent measures to study the viability of campsites located in priority flood risk areas. In addition, a government agreement will be approved to create an economic recovery fund for accommodations at risk in the event of sudden storms or river floods.
