In eight years, breast implant removal surgeries have doubled in Spain. The reasons for this increase are related to the expiration of implants and fashion. If they are not removed after 10 or 15 years, they can cause serious health problems, and what was once fashionable is no longer fashionable. The feminine image has changed, shifting from "voluptuous breasts to naturalness," according to Jaume Masià, director of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Service at Sant Pau Hospital. Many of the women who had them implanted twenty years ago have found they need to be replaced, and now, at 45, they don't like the idea of undergoing surgery again in their 60s or 65s to undergo another change.
