Elsa described in the car. The little girl was five years old at the time, but it was the first time she could see the world around her. Her mother, Roser Caro, explains that the child was born with corneal hypoplasia, a malformation that prevented her from having any sensation and from blinking. This caused her to progressively lose her vision, until she was left with only 10% of her sight. In January 2024, when she was five years old, the San Juan de Dios Hospital in Barcelona performed a pioneering pediatric operation on her, which not only prevented her from going completely blind but also allowed her to recover 10% of her vision.

Just a few minutes later, the light dims and illuminated dancers stroll among the tables while a choir sings thePirates' Anthem from the musical Sea and skyWith this melody so fitting for the setting, the 4th Almendro Origen Charity Christmas Dinner began with a clear objective: to raise funds for a charitable cause. This year, the organization raised €80,500 for the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital, specifically for the SJD Pediatric Cancer Center Barcelona project. The dinner centered around a story that connects the hospital with the Catalan food chain. The protagonist is Aina, daughter of an Almendro Origen employee, who was diagnosed with cancer at age 14. Both she and her family are familiar with the work carried out by the professionals at Sant Joan de Déu Hospital, and although the SJD Pediatric Cancer Center Barcelona wasn't yet a reality when she was diagnosed, she recognizes the center as a valuable resource for children currently battling the disease.

Diagnoses have increased especially among girls between 10 and 19 years old, regardless of their socioeconomic level and family situation. However, anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorders are not only the domain of children and adolescents. The Catalan health survey indicates that there are currently more than 85,000 people who suffer from some type of ED. All these data were revealed last October, within the framework of a Sant Pau Talks in which, through several professionals from the hospital's ED unit and the witnesses of some of its former patients, the causes and personal and family effects of this group of mental illnesses were addressed, as well as the phases of their journey and the importance of this cure.
