Only about fifty members and sympathizers of the ultra group Save Europe Act attended their call this Saturday in Plaça Sant Jaume in Barcelona, a figure that contrasted with the approximately 200 demonstrators of the anti-fascist counter-demonstration. In this way, the scene of this double mobilization of opposite signs showed from the first moment the fizzle of the extreme right, which had chosen the Catalan capital for its first stop in Spain with a rally at 7 p.m. In response, collectives such as the Barcelona Anti-fascist Coordinator and Som Antifeixistes (We are Anti-fascist) had called to "face them" in the same place, starting an hour earlier, at 6 p.m.

The far-right, which claims the primacy of the "autochthonous" and "white" population in Europe, puts Barcelona on the map of its continental offensive. The Save Europe Act movement – which calls on the European Union for the forced "remigration" (expulsion) of non-European migrants to protect the "ethnic continuity" of the continent's "native peoples" – will make its first stop in Spain this Saturday, August 22, in Plaça Sant Jaume in Barcelona. The event is part of a tour that has already passed through Brussels, Utrecht, Lyon, and Lille, and comes at a time when immigration management – with the Ceuta crisis as a backdrop – is at the center of European political debate.

The 3Cat platform has premiered two new episodes of the documentary shorts "Point of no return, by Raül Gallego. Winner of an international Emmy last year, the first episode of this season, Europe: young people and the far-right tide, transports us to the core of the ultra wave that has been so talked about in recent years. And here comes into play the second chapter: Europe: young and anti-fascist, which delves into the youth movements that have organized to confront it. The search for these realities goes beyond Catalonia and is taken to Spain, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Belgium to highlight shared circumstances that are progressively expanding.

The award-winning documentary series by Raül Gallego, Punt de no retorn, premieres its third season on June 22. It will be available on the 3Cat platform from Monday. Each episode will be forty minutes long and will continue to give visibility to current conflicts. L'ARA spoke with Gallego at the beginning of last year and, in the interview, the director explained the origin of the series, the choice of topics for the episodes, or the author's ability to approach extreme situations and people suffering the consequences of conflicts. But one of the achievements that the Catalan director probably did not imagine reaching at the beginning of the production was winning the International Emmy for Best Short-Form Series in 2024 and the Online Journalism Awards, in the digital short-form video storytelling category.

Since the far-right gained representation in Parliament in April 2021, the PSC, Junts, ERC, Comuns, and the CUP have maintained a pact in which they commit to isolating Vox—and now also the Catalan Alliance—so as to "not normalize or legitimize" their political actions. The anti-fascist pact states that the signatories will not accept the votes of these parties and that they will not be granted a seat in the governing bodies of Parliament. It also ensures that initiatives from these parties will be "prevented" from moving forward. However, with motions (texts that lack the force of law), the pact becomes a dead letter due to the functioning of the chamber.

Mohand Ameziane Sail was an Algerian anarchist who fought in World War I defending France. He was watched because he was an anti-colonialist "agitator." In 1936, he came to Catalonia to join the POUM militia and fight against Franco. Bestani Belkacem, also Algerian, was 28 when he went to the Aragon front. Mohamed Hammis was an illiterate peasant and left Algeria at 43 to join the International Brigades. Jean-Joseph Akl was a Lebanese man who also fought in the Spanish Civil War.
