In view of the upcoming general elections, there has been unusual interest and coverage regarding the possibility of building a unitary candidacy for the left that exists beyond the PSOE. In all autonomous communities, to the left of the socialists there is a political space that is more or less large, quite consolidated, which the PSOE candidacies cannot aspire to occupy, even though the real programmatic differences are not, at this moment, excessively large. It is a matter of origin and political culture, of different emphases, as well as of more moderate forms in some cases and more radical ones in others. The left that comes from the culture of democratic communism, of Carrillo, López Raimundo, and Berlinguer, for us to understand each other, has its own scope, especially when a new left coming from social mobilizations and new concerns has joined it. Deep down, the approaches are social democratic like those of the PSOE, although a bit more demanding when it comes to proposing social and economic transformations. Both social democratic offers are needed to be able to govern in Spain, also in Catalonia. They coexist and there is much more that they share than what confronts them.

The magistrate Arturo Zamarriego has decided to close the investigation stemming from the lawsuit filed by former Podem deputy, Íñigo Errejón, against actress Elisa Mouliaá. Errejón had reported her because he considered that the artist had publicly accused him of manipulating two witnesses from the party where, supposedly, the former politician assaulted her. In a ruling signed this Wednesday, to which El País has had access, the judge justifies the dismissal by stating that "it is evident that the defendant does not impute specific criminal acts or behaviors to the plaintiff".

This is what a voice of social dialogue thinks about the processing of the reduction of the working day to 37.5 hours per week in the Congress of DeputiesLast week, the committee again extended the period for submitting amendments to the entire bill until June 11th. This isn't the first time the deadline has been extended, so this representative of the social partners believes that—at this rate—there won't be time for the bill to be voted on in a plenary session before the summer break. This would mean it would be pushed to September: normally, Congress is open in June, but not in July or August, although days can always be set aside at the last minute to close pending files.
