After the pandemic, medical series seemed to have become immune, because reality had surpassed any fiction set in a hospital. However, after a reasonable amount of time, it's a television genre that remains relevant and with new sensibilities. After all, these types of series speak to us about life and death, about human vulnerability. Medical centers are spaces that reflect the vast majority of their social concerns.

"Non serviam" ("I will not serve you" in Latin) are the words that Christian tradition attributes to Lucifer, when he rebels against God and lets him know that he renounces him. When The White Lotus landed on Max, it did so, in principle, as a miniseries with a beginning and an end. The success it had – it was one of the most talked about fictions of 2021 and won five Emmy awards – made the platform decide to commission more seasons from its creator, Mike White, and the project ended up becoming a franchise that explores the miseries of the rich who travel to resorts to find peace and live (even more) like kings while the poor workers of these resorts endure humiliation and contempt. After visiting Hawaii and Sicily, Mike White goes to Thailand, to the island of Koh Samui, with a new group of dysfunctional tourists and builds a satire that laughs at the wellness industry and the spiritual aspirations of the wealthy. The third season premieres this Monday on Max.
