Don't start new wars." Vance justified his support for Trump's candidacy by saying he was convinced that Trump wouldn't send "Americans to fight across the seas." The New York tycoon was the only Republican candidate who criticized the Iraq War in the 2016 primaries, and during the 2014 campaign, he embraced isolationism to the point that at the beginning of his term, he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize following the agreement to halt the war. Therefore, the decision to attack Iran has caused a rift within the MAGA movement, and highly influential voices like that of Tucker Carlson have expressed clear opposition.

Sometimes it's a pleasant element that makes it fall on all fours, other times it's hunting dogs that push it into an open area where it's within range. Vice President JD Vance was the provocateur who pushed Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky into Donald Trump's sights. at the catastrophic meeting in the Oval Office. Vance had no trouble embracing his role as a bulldog given his stance against NATO and Ukraine. The president's deputy, who seemed doomed to irrelevance under the shadow of Elon Musk, found a way to secure a prominent position in the new administration.

This fear, which is entirely well-founded, has been heightened by the arrival of a "new sheriff" in Washington: Donald Trump, an apprentice dictator (or absolute monarch) who does not hesitate to tweet – on an account on the X network that has more than 100 million "followers" – that "He who saves his country does not rape. His co-pilot, Elon Musk – who has more than twice as many followers – has hammered home the point by saying that "democracy" is that the president can do whatever he wants. This makes many wonder, despite the substantial differences between the two historical moments, about the parallels that the situation today presents with that of the 1930s.

Analysts agree that the call the US president made to Vladimir Putin on Wednesday has completely reversed the policies that the allies had had until now and, consequently, has given the Russian leader the victory he had long hoped for. Trump bought his arguments, and even before sitting down at the negotiating table he had already announced that Ukraine would not join NATO and that the borders before 2014 would not return. To what extent Ukraine would be forced to cede territory is not clear, but experts are also clear that Russia will want to keep everything.
