The founder of the UNESCO Center for Catalonia and first director of the Bofill Foundation, Fèlix Martí, died this Tuesday. Born in Barcelona in 1938, Martí was a philosopher and professor, associated with various organizations dedicated to peace, dialogue, freedom, and interfaith respect. US President Donald Trump announced this Tuesday that the United States will withdraw from UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. The decision, effective December 31, 2026, was motivated by the UN agency's failure to serve US national interests, State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said in a statement. The United States has 26 sites inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List, including national parks like the Grand Canyon and monuments like the Statue of Liberty. "The globalist agenda," the statement added, "contradicts the America First foreign policy" promoted by Trump.
