This weekend, a powerful solar flare caused the eruption of solar material that began reaching Earth today: a large amount of particles are impacting the Earth's atmosphere and magnetic field. This is not an exceptional situation nor is it dangerous for life on our planet, but these particles resulting from solar storms can sometimes cause disruption to artificial satellites and telecommunications.

Dermatologists make it clear: there is no such thing as a healthy tan. "A tan is always a consequence of the damage caused by ultraviolet radiation to our skin, and therefore, the best thing we can do to care for our skin is to prevent it," explains Francesc Alamon, a dermatologist at Hospital Clínic. Prevention involves adequate sun protection, physical protection with clothing, hats, and sunglasses, as well as avoiding the hours of greatest sunlight, which "is key to mitigating the effects the sun can have on our skin," adds Alamon. Photoaging and many of the spots and wrinkles that appear on the skin, especially on the face, are a consequence of the photoexposure we have accumulated over the years.

"Although dermatologists are understanding, it's important to be clear: a healthy tan doesn't exist," says Alejandro Fernández, from Sanitas' CIMA Hospital. A tan is actually evidence of the damage radiation causes to the skin.

Like every summer, the beaches are filled with tourists with reddened skin, and it is also becoming a tradition for social networks to be filled with pseudo-doctors. who encourage people not to use sunscreen. Among them is Marcos Llorente, the well-known Atlético de Madrid footballer, who has stated on several occasions that he sunbathes for more than four hours at a time without applying any protection, and that "the sun is not the cause of skin cancer." He has also asserted that his family also does not use sunscreen, and posted a photo of his father on Instagram, topless, claiming that he hasn't used it his entire life (60 years), and asking his followers: "Where are your spots on your skin?"

It's 7:15 in the morning. The boy is about to go on his first trip to the pool of the first week of summer camp. We take out the sunscreen and... it's been expired for two months! The shops are still closed. What do we do?

As a Mediterranean country, it's clear that socializing tends to take place outdoors, and in the summer, probably enjoying the sun. But despite our geographic predisposition to greater exposure to the sun's rays, it's up to each individual to decide what relationship we want to have with the sun. The European Space Agency's (ESA) Solar Orbiter spacecraft has captured images of the Sun's south pole for the first time in history. This milestone represents a major advance in our understanding of the Sun's magnetic field, the Sun's cycle, and space weather. Until now, all our images of our star were from the Sun's equator, as Earth, the other planets in its orbit, and all spacecraft orbit the star in a disk called the ecliptic plane.

In fact, although it will affect Europe, it will only be visible in Iceland, Spain, and a very small part of Portugal. We will all be privileged: the total eclipse will only be visible in the north of the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands (the only places in Spain where the eclipse will be complete).
