After years of demands and legal disputes, the Can Juncadella coastal path, blocked since 2009 by the garden fences of a Kazakh magnate's mansion, will reopen to the public. This has been agreed by the Lloret de Mar City Council in an agreement with the property owner that will allow the route to be redefined and the passage through the estate to be opened. The agreement, which will have to be voted on by the municipal plenary, where it is expected to be approved without problems, will allow compliance with up to six rulings in favour of reopening by the High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TJSC).

This is the mission that SOS Costa Brava wants to entrust to the future "godparents" of the coastal paths, a new role with which the environmental organization intends to strengthen the monitoring of these historic routes along the sea and guarantee the public's right to walk freely and without obstacles.

This happens especially along the Baix Empordà coast, between Palamós and Begur, where many ports and buoy fields are concentrated, with hundreds of boats moored in the months of July and August, setting sail every day. However, this also happens further up the Gulf of Roses, towards Cap de Creus, where the landscape is more rugged and wild. In all these places, lines of yellow buoys mark the limit that boats cannot cross—when there are no buoys, boats theoretically cannot approach within 50 meters of the rocks. However, once again this year, environmentalists denounce that these measures are often not followed and that the proliferation of motorboats, yachts, zodiac boats, and jet skis spoils the environment and endangers bathers who reach the coves on foot.

At this point, between Calafat Hill and Montgròs, lies Can Sota Mountain, a very leafy, hidden wooded area next to the Cadiretes mountain range, where around a hundred houses, shacks, and cabins are scattered, many of them unused or in poor condition, built without permission or license among paths and tracks. Recently, the Lloret City Council approved a modification to the municipal urban plan (POUM) for this area, covering approximately 50 hectares, to allow for the construction of up to 662 homes. Faced with this scenario, which would completely change the urban landscape of this mountain, SOS Costa Brava and SOS Lloret have spoken out and filed objections to the council's measures.

At many points, the path borders small residential areas and chalets built in the last century, before the coastal law, but it also passes through several unspoiled stretches, without a single house in sight. On one of these natural plots, on a slope of the Sant Pere de Rodes mountain range, next to the last buildings in the urban area of Llançà, the Lanzarote City Council has given the go-ahead to build 90 homes. This is the Super Fener area, which occupies nine plots of approximately 8 hectares, next to the boundaries of the natural park. The council has obtained the approval of the relevant bodies, and the first excavators have already begun work to prepare the land. SOS Costa Brava and Iaeden-Salvem el Empordà, however, have shown themselves radically opposed to this new real estate development: they claim that their objections have not been taken into account and threaten to file an administrative lawsuit with the aim of halting the works.

The latest case is the project Jardins de Sa Riera Living, which is about to complete the construction of 52 luxury homes next to the beach, in a new development which required the deforestation of the virgin forest of pines and oaks closest to the coast. The organisation Salvem la Costa de Begur, which is part of the environmentalist federation SOS Costa Brava, has positioned itself radically against it.
