Last Saturday, 13,068 people took the written test to obtain the higher-level Catalan certificate (C2), the official accreditation that teachers, various grades of civil servants, and language professionals need to practice their work. The surprise, for some examinees, was that after taking a break they were able to review the first part of the exam, which assesses reading comprehension and written expression, accounts for 57% of the grade, and has been eliminatory for a few editions. Vilaweb has collected complaints from some users because they consider it an irregularity that lowers the exam's requirements and gives an advantage to the examinees.

An exhibition at the Palau Robert on critical thinking, disinformation, and hate speech has drawn a complaint from Plataforma per la Llengua (Platform for the Language) because it "stigmatizes Catalan speakers as alleged aggressors." In a space designed to resemble a gym changing room, the exhibition placed the phrase "Let them go back to their country!" alongside the phrase "Let them learn Catalan!", which could be interpreted as equating demanding language learning with racism or exclusion. According to Plataforma per la Llengua, the exhibition presented learning Catalan "with a negative, belligerent, and even hateful tone." The ICIP (International Catalan Institute for Peace), the organizing body, admitted on Thursday afternoon that "the central message of the piece could be misinterpreted and that the text was unfortunate," and has since removed this section from the exhibition.

Joan Pujolar, professor of sociolinguistics at the UOC (Olot, 1964), is one of the leading specialists in the construction of identity through language. In recent years, he has focused his research on new Catalan speakers: who they are, how they change languages, why, and what recognition they receive from the community. On Saturday, October 25, he will participate in the seminar Semicircles organized by the Platform for Language with a timely presentation on Catalan, immigration and social cohesion.

The Platform for Language has revealed a linguistic discrimination between two Mossos d'Esquadra officers at the Amazon warehouse in the Zona Franca (Free Trade Zone) and a transport driver. Both workers refused to unload the truck if the driver didn't speak to them in Spanish, arguing that it's not true that Catalan is mandatory in Catalonia. The transport driver tried to maintain Catalan until he saw the conflict escalating and needed to abandon the load or risk losing his company €10,000.

The draft of the new taxi law, which the Generalitat will present this Wednesday to the Taxi Council and must be submitted to Parliament next week, provides for the elimination of the thousand or so urban VTCs currently operating in the Barcelona metropolitan area as their licenses expire, and the creation of a new category of VTCs called "high two-hour" and a service duration of at least one hour. The Generalitat estimates that 600 urban licenses will expire with the law's entry into force, although the intention is to make a "smooth transition," and another 300 will be able to continue operating for a while longer, in compliance with court rulings, until they also expire. The new text also includes a data platform that will use geolocation to monitor taxis and VTCs for irregularities.

At the doctor's office, at a court date, or shopping at the store next door. Going about everyday life speaking Catalan is becoming increasingly complicated, to the point that half of Catalan speakers (50.5%) admit that they have at some point given up their language "to avoid problems." This data, taken from the 2024 Sociopolitical Survey, conducted by the Center for Opinion Studies (CEO), is one of the fifty realities highlighted in the CAT 2025 Report, which is produced annually by the Platform for Languages to provide an overview of the state of the Catalan language. "It's not a sociolinguistic study, but rather data that is not the same every year, but that gives us a true picture of the state of the language," explained the platform's president, Òscar Escuder.

The eight major Catalan-language advocacy organizations have joined forces to promote #repte21dies across the country. "It's about maintaining Catalan for 21 days, speaking only Catalan everywhere and with everyone: will you be able to do it?" asks activist Txe Arana at the initiative's presentation. The challenge will begin on May 12 and run until June 1.

The character played by Joan Gabàs (Valls, 1998) has been recognised for paving the way in transformism by defending Catalan and Catalan identity with the Innovation award from the Martí Gasull awards given by the Platform for Language. His shows can feature anyone from Núria Feliu and Guillermina Motta to Jet Lag, the Teresinas, Pilarin Bayés, the Super3 Club, the Triplets and Dagoll Dagom, and makes humor of the Process, corruption, neutral pronouns or his life. The awards, which also celebrate the career of Eliseu Climent and have as finalists the Afers Publishing House, the IB3 program Tentol and the project on video games in Catalan Ce Trencada, will be presented on February 25 at the Teatre Poliorama in Barcelona.

A front of organisations and unions promoting Catalan –among them Plataforma per la Llengua, USTEC, SEPC and Intersindical– have presented an appeal before Catalonia's High Court to revoke the sentence that establishes 25% of classes have to be taught in Spanish in Catalan schools. They consider that there has been a violation of fundamental rights because the principle of the "judge predetermined by law" was not respected. They argue that the president of the Administrative Chamber, Javier Aguayo, "was able to choose to participate in this case" following the rules for the distribution of cases in the courts. Yet these rules do not conform to international law because they allow court presidents to intervene in cases that have "social, economic or media impact". Although it has not participated in this appeal, Òmnium Cultural has also backed the initiative.
