At the beginning of November 2022, the Portuguese Prosecutor's Office ordered the search of the official residence of the then Prime Minister of Portugal, the socialist António Costa, for an alleged case of corruption (some spoke directly of lawfare) that in the following months would end up completely deflating. But, to everyone's surprise, in a turn that has been interpreted over time as a political move to save his European career, Costa decided to resign and leave on wet paper the absolute majority which he had achieved earlier that same year. The result of this operation was that the Iberian socialist alliance ended and Portugal turned to the right on March 10, 2024.

Politics has become a competition in which at the end of each day the points scored by the contenders are counted, and yesterday's scoreboard showed two big winners: Pedro Sánchez and Salvador Illa.

"A rupture of space would mean a setback that would be difficult to overcome, which would stop progress that my role as verifier prevents me from revealing, but not knowing." With these words, the Salvadoran diplomat Francisco Galindo, who acts as mediator between the PSOE and Junts, has asked Carles Puigdemont's party to withdraw the debate on the question of confidence Spanish President Pedro Sánchez, which is expected to be voted on Tuesday in Congress. Galindo, who is following the state of the talks between the two parties, believes that it would be a gesture by the Junts that would avoid the "breakup". Until now, the mediator had only expressed himself publicly once: the day the mediation began.

For days now several signs pointed in this direction, but confirmation did not come until the last day of the year. Generalitat president Pere Aragonès explained this Friday that he has decided to set aside the confidence vote he had agreed with CUP would be held halfway through his mandate, at the beginning of 2023. As he has explained in an interview with Efe, the president considers that CUP's rejection opposition to the budget means that "it does not make much sense" to maintain that commitment. Even so, he has assured that "in the next weeks" he hopes to win back CUP's "trust", so that they can be the government's stable partner once again.
