According to the Wall Street Journal, the Islamist group has reportedly announced that it is ready to hand over all twenty live hostages to Israel this Sunday. Inside the Strip, devastated by Israeli bombs after two years of genocidal war, there are still 48 hostages: an estimated 20 are alive and 18 dead. As part of the Trump-sponsored peace agreement, the return of the Israeli hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners is one of the key points of the first phase of the plan, along with the ceasefire that has already come into effect. US President Donald Trump had said that the release of the hostages would take place on Monday, but this statement by Hamas suggests it could be brought forward and begin this Sunday.

Benjamin Netanyahu's government has announced a "tactical pause" to allow humanitarian aid into the Strip. The decision comes shortly after French President Emmanuel Macron announced that Paris would recognize Palestine as a state in September and other European leaders, such as Britain's Starmer and even Germany's Merz, have raised their tone against Tel Aviv. Therefore, the first conclusion from Netanyahu's move is that, despite having Donald Trump's full complicity, he is also sensitive to diplomatic pressure.

Specifically, it is estimated that there will be an excess of 14 million deaths, including 4.5 million children under the age of five, in the next four and a half years due to the dismantling of foreign aid and international cooperation undertaken this year by the Donald Trump administration.

"Two-thirds of these goals are behind schedule and achieving them requires an investment of more than $4 trillion a year," said Guterres during the opening of the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) which started this Monday in Seville.

The compilation of the 48 missions in which he has participated is a compendium of the worst humanitarian disasters that the world has suffered since the turn of the century: famine in Kenya, war in Angola, massacres in Darfur, an earthquake in Haiti, the latest jihadist offensive in Mozambique or the current crisis in the Ethiopian region of Tigray. Next week he will travel to South Sudan. He could explain a thousand terrible situations that he has lived in his own skin, but instead would rather tell a positive story: "In 2003, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, there was a little girl who had lost her speech after her parents were killed. I was going from here to there and one day when I was taking her there she said to me muzungu, which means white man, and that's how she started speaking again.
