This was the condition set by Mónica Oltra to return to the political front line and that her partners from Més —the coalition's sovereignist formation— have accepted, as the former vice-president of the Generalitat Valenciana's closest collaborators explained to ARA. Once the hurdle was overcome, the movements were unleashed and on Saturday Oltra announced that she accepted the offer to be the candidate for the Valencia City Council. A decision that confirmed her determination not to wait for her judicial situation to be resolved. "The times will no longer be marked by a court," the same sources had already told ARA last Septemberannounced last September by the same sources.

Oltra resigned from all her positions in 2022 following the judicial case against her for the alleged cover-up of sexual abuse committed by her ex-husband against a minor in her care. One year before the municipal elections, the former Compromís leader is taking a step forward to be the coalition's candidate for mayor of Valencia, currently governed by the PP and Vox. She announced this at the Iniciativa-Compromís congress this Saturday, accepting the request the party had made to her a few weeks ago to run as a candidate in the 2027 municipal elections in Valencia. This Saturday, Compromís deputy Alberto Ibáñez reiterated this to her: "If you want, we want you to be the next mayor of Valencia." "It is time to break the darkness. I accept the challenge," she replied.

Judge Pedro Castellano (who presides over the fourth section of the Valencian Provincial Court, known for its bias in favor of the People's Party in previous cases), along with Judges Isabel Sifres and Clara Eugenia Bayarri, decided to reopen the case at the request of far-right organizations acting as private prosecutors (represented by the far-right activist Cristina Seguí) and the victim's lawyer, José Luis Roberto, former president of España 2000 and another prominent figure in the Valencian far right. The judges, however, rejected the opinion of the investigating judge and even the Public Prosecutor's Office, who had dismissed any evidence of criminal conduct on Oltra's part.

The decision also goes against the opinion of the Public Prosecutor's Office and supports the various far-right organizations that either represent the victim or are acting as private prosecutors. In its ruling, which ARA has obtained, the provincial judicial body insists on ordering a trial based on the "probability" that the events occurred. In this regard, she reiterates that "it can be argued as a plausible hypothesis that (...) the people who were aware of the facts" and who had guardianship of the minor, "would have tried to conceal the sexual abuse" and that, to do so, they "would have used a report" in which the minor was not questioned about the abuse" and by not reporting the facts or communicating them to the public prosecutor's office. During her testimony, Oltra asserted that she did not take an interest in the case file until 2020, when the case was first tried. That is, more than two years after learning of the events following the arrival of a court summons for Icardi at the home they shared, even though the couple was in the process of separating. During her testimony, the Compromís leader insisted that, at all times, she remained uninvolved in the actions of her department and explained that at the beginning of her term she signed a document committing herself to abstain from decisions affecting the children's center where her husband worked.

Publicly, the Valencianists have always supported the progressive leader, but those around Oltra reproach them for this defense having occurred "only behind closed doors." Since June 21, 2022, the distance between the former vice president and her coalition partners has continued to grow. The gap has been widened by the fact that in recent years Más has consolidated its position of dominance over Compromís. Previously, the nationalists shared power with an Iniciativa party with far fewer members, but which enjoyed Oltra's electoral appeal. Now, however, they assert their majority, and the best example of how the mess is growing has been the split within the coalition in Congress. "She no longer feels represented by the current Commitment. And neither does Initiative," the same sources at ARA explain. Therefore, Mónica Oltra is now considering returning to the front line under the umbrella of another political project.
