The work to dismantle the Castor storage facility, located off the coast of Vinaròs, has already passed its first two phases and entered its final stretch this January, according to information obtained by ARA. The work to seal the wells and remove the pipelines began in April 2015 and will be completed during the first half of this year, according to forecasts by Enegás, the company in charge.

Work to seal and remove the Castor, the underwater natural gas reservoir launched in 2012 by the company Escal UGS off the coast of Vinaròs, will begin in the next three months, according to sources at Enagás, the company in charge of carrying out the work, explained to the newspaper ARA. The first step to unblock this operation, which has been delayed for years, will be the arrival of the jack-up, which is the jack-up platform that will be installed next to the Castor and from where the work to seal the wells will be carried out. This task will take eight months, according to estimates and if nothing goes wrong, and will cost 76 million euros.

A Castellón court will hear from this Monday at 10 am the trial of what is known as the Castor case, in which two Escal UGS managers stand accused of being responsible for over 500 earthquakes caused by the injection of gas in an offshore platform, since closed. According to sources from Valencia's High Court, throughout the eleven sessions planned for the process the court will hear the two defendants, former president of Escal UGS Recaredo del Potro, and former CEO Martínez Dalmau, as well as 189 witnesses, 6 expert witnesses and 35 experts. The sessions will begin with the two defendants' statements.
