Companies—especially large corporations—have become accustomed to exaggerating, or outright fabricating, environmental credentials in their communication strategies to portray their products and operations as more sustainable than they actually are. It won't be long before the business world finds it somewhat more difficult to engage in eco-posturing. -either greenwashing, in English- Left and right.

Rice produces provitamin A in the leaves, but not in the grain, which is what is eaten. Because of this, 250 million preschool-aged children worldwide currently suffer from vitamin A deficiency. Each year, between 250,000 and 500,000 of these children go blind, and half of them die within a year of going blind.

But the statue disappeared on Monday and can no longer be seen. Two women and a man, who first posed as tourists and then disguised themselves as museum workers, carried it away, concealed under a blanket, and left through an emergency exit, according to French media reports. A person was called to the museum to claim responsibility for the action on behalf of Greenpeace.

The organization claims it has been orchestrated to make it disappear, at least in the United States, and silence its struggle. This is the lawsuit filed by the American oil company Energy Transfer against the protest actions Greenpeace—along with other organizations—has carried out for almost a decade against a gas pipeline in North Dakota that crossed ecologically valuable Indigenous lands. Now, a North Dakota jury has found Greenpeace liable for defamation and ordered it to pay more than $660 million (€605 million) to the oil company.

The downside of this activity is that it has in turn placed the country as one of the territories of the State with the most contaminated groundwater by nitrates associated with slurry: 40% of the area is already affected within what are called nitrate vulnerable zones. To reverse the situation, and dodge a possible EU record, the Generalitat issued a moratorium three years ago limiting the growth of farms in more than 60 municipalities, a measure that has now been extended for four years. However, for the moment, the results have not helped to make the pollution go away, according to Greenpeace in a report published on Thursday. Nitrate vulnerable areas have grown by 200,000 hectares in the last decade and pollution has shot up 45% between 2016 and 2019.
