Another setback from the courts to one of the decisions of Ada Colau's government as mayor of Barcelona. The High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) has annulled the veto that the Barcelona City Council in 2021 imposed the construction of a franchise of the Hermitage Museum on a plot of land at the new port entrance. According to the ruling that has been released The Country, the museum project met the urban planning requirements and had the necessary economic viability and, therefore, the magistrates consider that the refusal of the municipal government (with Barcelona en Comú at the forefront) arbitrarily affected the rights of the promoter.

The promoters of the Hermitage project have assured this Saturday that they continue to work with the Port of Barcelona and the Gran Teatre del Liceu to present a proposal to the Barcelona City Council that "allows to advance in an alliance between the two entities", and in accordance with the agreement adopted by the board of directors of the Port Authority of Barcelona last Wednesday, rejected by the City Council. In a statement, the Hermitage assures that the project has been developed "in strict compliance with the law" and has complied with all technical and legal requirements. The promoters warn that they will not renounce to "exercise the necessary actions" to defend their "rights" and "legitimate interests".

The City council of Barcelona has agreed in a government commission to reject the Port of Barcelona's agreement with the Hermitage museum franchise. The allegations that the promoters of the museum had presented to the City Council's decision were also rejected. Thus, the Port's decision to grant land to the Hermitage Museum is overturned, as it was dependent on city council support. "We have been forced to take this decision," said the mayor Janet Sanz, representing the City Council on the Port's board of directors.
