The ruling of the National Court, which focused only on the explosion in Alcanar the day before, ignored the possible relationship between the CNI and the imam of Ripoll, Abdelbaki se-Satty. However, in the last year the Congressional commission of inquiry into the 17-A attacks has revealed documents that reveal that the CNI had tried to capture Es-SattyIn this same commission, one of the three convicted for the attacks, Mohamed Houli, He openly accused the CNI of knowing "the imam's intentions.".

This is what the newspaper explained on Monday. Abc, and the independence movement has already rushed to once again request the appearance of former secret service director Félix Sanz Roldán before the commission of inquiry opened in Congress. Sanz Roldán's statements have been changing: during his visit to the Lower House, he stated that Es-Satty "had never been a collaborator or informant" for the intelligence services, but the classified documentation provided by the CNI revealed that contact had been maintained with the imam after his release from prison; however, payments were processed through the Girona office.

Francisco Javier Martínez, father of Xavi Martínez Mompart, the three-year-old boy killed in the attack on the Rambla on August 17, 2017, has been the first victim to appear before the commission of inquiry in Congress on 17-A. Martínez has denounced, seven and a half years later, that in all this time the administrations have not attended well to the victims, who have been "marked for life." "We are the broken toys of a society. We need empathy to help us get back on our feet," he said. Martínez has explained that they have lacked support, information about their rights and about the procedures they should follow. And he has denounced episodes of lack of "humanity." His testimony, he stressed, seeks to "improve" care for the future. "Do not forget that it can happen to any of you," he said.

His exact words were: "The CNI was aware of the imam's intentions and allowed him to come and brainwash us. I say this now and not before for fear of reprisals or that it could harm me, but I am already condemned and I have nothing to lose." A terrorist has the credibility he has, and Houli's words reveal a certain self-exculpatory intention when he accuses Abdelbaki es-Satty of having "brainwashed" the boys in the cell, and it is also true that he does not have any documentary evidence, but even so his testimony is shocking because he is someone totally alien to the political fray.

Specifically, that of the parents of Xavi, the 3-year-old boy who died in La Rambla, who during the proceedings tried to have it investigated whether the secret services were behind the attacks or, at least, whether they committed serious negligence. "We are studying it and seeing how we approach it," says lawyer Jaume Alonso-Cuevillas in the ARA, who advances the intention of filing a new complaint against the head of the CNI at that time, Félix Sanz Roldán, and his political representatives. Whether it would be against former president Mariano Rajoy, former Defence Minister María Dolores de Cospedal or former Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido, has not yet been decided. Cuevillas believes that there is not enough grounds to convict anyone, but there is to open an investigation.

"You will not find any video where I have greeted this person," she said. Several shouts can be heard in videos of the minute's silence, although most protesters kept quiet.

She is dressed in blue, wearing sunglasses, her hands are shaking and she cannot stop crying. Once she is seated, she is handed a framed photograph. It is her son's, Julian, one of those killed in the August 17, 2017 attack in Barcelona, when he was only seven years old. Her name is Jumaine but everyone calls her Jom. Her legs were left shattered by the attack and it wasn't until three days later that she found out Julian was gone. Hers is the most moving, the most terrible image of the tribute paid today to the victims of that attack. The victims lay flowers. Robert Manrique, a tireless fighter for the rights of victims of all terrorist attacks, has come along with his three grandchildren, Dominic and Andrea, four, and Ramses, two, and they too lay a flower. Jom can't stop crying, and everyone she meets tries to console her. It is impressive to think what must be going on inside those people who step on Miró's mural, right where the van that destroyed their lives stopped. Mental strength, integrity, dignity. I remember that in the memorial held on the first anniversary, in 2018, Xavi Martínez was present. He is the father of Xavi, the three-year-old boy who also died. This year he announced on social media that he would not attend. He does not agree with the political management of the attacks nor with the sentence regarding the involvement of the Ripoll jihadist cell. In fact, there is a large group of people who, on the fringes of the event, make their voices heard: "We want to know the truth!" they shout.

"He has a long history of trying to sow shadows of suspicion without ever providing evidence," she denounced in a press conference, where she insisted that "the insinuations have no logical or material basis." "There is no other explanation than the desire to stir trouble", she continued. Cunillera also regretted that Villarejo is given credibility by some and has addressed the Catalan government especially to ask it "not to play [Villarejo's] game" because in Catalonia "there is no need for tension". "To what extent do we want to make a lie big and give credibility to those who accuse without evidence?" he asked. He also demanded "respect" for the victims and the investigation that was made of the facts.

The well-documented, precise and exhaustive ruling - it is 1,000 pages long - despite the fact that for the first time it establishes the total number of victims - which rises to more than 300 between the different scenarios (in addition to Barcelona and Cambrils, also Alcanar), describes them as "the great forgotten ones" and compensates some of them, has left many unsatisfied, who have already announced through their legal representatives that they will appeal the court's decision.
