Carlota Elias was clear that she needed a topic that would motivate her for her final degree project in criminology. And she came across the word hyrbridophilia: people who are attracted to criminals. She has finally turned it into the book Hibristofília, a tale of (enclosed) fairies.

We read in the ARA about the book by British journalist Ellen AtlantaVirtual Diva(Deusto, 2025), where he criticizes the business ofinfluencers"as a symptom of what millions of girls and women experience today," who "feel compelled" to imitate and admire her content. The publication discusses the model andinfluencerKylie Jenner, who embodies a "patriarchal beauty standard that is becoming increasingly strict, but disguised as female empowerment."

"When women get older, they can't find men their own size." That's the subtitle of The Superwoman SyndromeFrom psychologist Antoni Bolinches, this book attempts to understand why women are disappointed with love and why men are disoriented. Originally published in January 2020, shortly before the pandemic, it's now back in a revised and updated edition.

Madina Ayar writes for the ARA (You can see her eyes, but nothing else, in the photograph accompanying this text) from Kabul, about Afghan restaurants. She explains that "before" they were one of the few leisure venues where men and women sat together, but that the last time she went to one, "the garden area, which used to be where families sat, had become a 'women-only' space and men weren't allowed in." The waiters said, "Ladies, stay here. Gentlemen, you must go to the men's section." They did have a second unisex dining room, but it was like the smoking area in our old bars: no windows, no air.

This week we presented the main findings of the Survey on Sexual Violence by the Department of the Interior. These are alarming figures that should shake anyone to their core, but at the same time, they allow us to construct a clear picture of the serious problem and the impact of this violence. The fact that two out of every three Catalan women (67.3%) have suffered sexual violence at some point in their lives, and that 15.5% have experienced it in the last year, definitively shatters the myth that sexual violence is exceptional or circumstantial. It is structural, persistent, and deeply rooted, and even today, only 6% of those affected report it. This violence, as the data indicates, transcends generations, public and private spaces, and intimate relationships, and it remains silenced. This silence is not resignation or passivity on the part of women, but rather a response to institutional distrust, the difficulty in identifying situations of violence (many of which are normalized and internalized), and a reflection of the fear of reprisals and the social burden that still falls on those who suffer it in the form of guilt or shame.

Andrea Bajani (Rome, 1975), which with The birthday (Periscopio/Anagrama; Catalan translation by Anna Casassas) received the latest Strega Prize, is as meticulous as the narrator of his latest novel. Between interviews, he orders a short cappuccino with soy milk and doesn't crack a shy smile until after he's tried it. "I'm obsessive, like all writers," he admits. Author of some twenty books—including novels, poetry collections, and essays—in The birthday Bajani takes stock of his relationship with his parents starting on the tenth anniversary of losing contact with them. Rather than writing a volume of memoirs constructed from the intimate scenes that led him to make this decision, the author reveals his pain through a twisted and nuanced text, in which, through the portrait of a mother who disappears to please her husband, he draws out all the dysfunctions of a family and its family.

Looking back today, March 8, 2018 seems much further away than it was seven years ago. At that time, we thought that the great wave that was beginning to rise would be the unstoppable wave, the definitive one. It was the great wave. The streets were filled with collective indignation and revolution. The wave rose imposingly. The entire world was bathed in a movement that came from afar, waves that broke down walls to make way for the women who came behind. But those of us who came came up against more walls, the old ones that had not yet fallen. And, like our predecessors, we stumbled against the foundations, against the pillars of the patriarchy rooted in the planet, as if there were no other possibility of life than violence and systematic discrimination against women; against this social organization that still prevails, the one that men decided how it would be, not only without asking the opinion of women but prohibiting women from having an opinion. And then they called them naive. On this disastrous pillar a new world order is now growing, one that is older than walking. With women leading the extreme right so that we can hear: "Women, when they are bad, are much worse than men." In pain, it is clear that we are well valued. It is curious. But as a curiosity, I will say that feminism defends equality. And we already feel bad that women have to be equalized by the extreme right and not by the left, but feminism does not make women good or bad. Nor does it make women better than men. The people who think that when we are bad, we are worse, are the same ones who believe that feminists are a pain. They are the same people who maintain that one in two women has suffered sexist violence in Spain because they provoke it, that feminicides are perpetuated because jealousy kills and that the wage gap increases because women do not want positions of responsibility. And we all live in that world.

A man from Rubí has been arrested this week for having shared, with other men, images of sexual assaults on girls between 7 and 12 years old. He did it from his work computer, where he had installed an application specifically to be able to pass on this material. He was a man with a job in a multinational company.
