Following this roadmap, the group already recycles 80% of its waste, thanks to improvements in the sorting and recycling processes resulting from highway management. Along these lines, the company has deployed an environmental management system across all its business units, which allows for monitoring the management of each type of waste and aims to maximize its recycling rate. This has involved installing collection points for conventional and hazardous waste in many of the maintenance areas of the various highways. New contracts have also been awarded to companies specializing in waste management in several countries. Pavement with plastic, pine resin, and other recycled materials

Another of Abertis's key priorities is the use of recycled materials and the reuse of milled material in pavements, without compromising the durability and safety of the infrastructure. The initiative the group has been promoting since 2022 through the JEPL concession in India stands out, involving the use of pavement made with recycled plastic. This option reduces environmental impact, improves surface grip, stability, and flexibility, provides greater durability, extends the lifespan of roads, and reduces the amount of asphalt needed for road construction, thus boosting efficiency.

This commitment takes shape in cultural outreach programs, international exhibitions, and institutional partnerships that make the Abertis Foundation a key player in promoting art beyond borders. The Castellet Castle is one of its heritage assets of exceptional interest, which the Foundation makes available to the public. In addition to being its headquarters, the site houses the International Centre for Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves (UNESCOMED), following the declaration adopted on April 5, 2014, at the UNESCO General Conference in Paris. Castellet has thus become a benchmark in the field of Mediterranean cultural and natural heritage, open to the public and highlighting the Foundation's commitment to culture in the broadest sense of the word.

This objective has been achieved in just five years and now, the company has set itself a new, even more ambitious challenge: to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030. This is how the group specialized in infrastructure and mobility management successfully completes its first ESG Plan (in English, environmental, social and governance) 2022-2024.

What seems to be good news for users is not good news for workers. As ARA has learnt, the lifting of tolls will entail a labour force adjustment plan (ERE) in Abertis, whose concession will end. It will affect 408 workers, most of whom work collecting tolls
