The complaint has two legs. The first concerns the publication of fake news through the so-called "patriotic police," a maneuver orchestrated by former commissioner José Manuel Villarejo on behalf of the PP leadership, as evidenced by audio recordings provided by the former police officer himself. The second refers to the Pegasus spying of which Mas was a victim between 2015 and 2020, according to the specialized Canadian laboratory.

I would never say it: now it turns out that even the PSOE has well-founded suspicions that Cospedal may have lied in Parliament (it's a crime) when she said that Operation Catalunya didn't ring a bell, despite the fact that in an audio recording she seemed so calm celebrating with Commissioner Villarejo that the fabrication of lies with public money had been involved in order to divert money from public contracts in order to pay off debts to illustrious police informants. The Socialists have become dignified: "We cannot accept as normal the serious audio recordings published [...] in which Cospedal points to theknowledge on the part of Mariano Rajoyof the facts being judged."

"We have never given false information knowing it was false, neither information about accounts in the Grenadines nor any other. Neither about Podemos nor about anyone else," said the journalist at the beginning of the broadcast of Al rojo vivo, the programme he directs and presents on La Sexta, a channel of which he is also a director. This weekend Crónica Libre published some recordings made by Villarejo in which a conversation between the former superintendent and Ferreras can be heard. In the recordings, the journalist doubts the veracity of the information about Pablo Iglesias's alleged bank accounts in the Grenadines, a tax haven, which was given to him by Eduardo Inda, a journalist from OK Diario. "I told him: 'Eduardo, this is very serious. I'll go with it, but it's very delicate and too crude," Ferreras says in the recording.

This time he has done it to testify as a witness in the trial of an alleged plot of police corruption and drug trafficking, known as the 'Macedonia' case, which had him in the spotlight for nearly a decade. Trapero was never investigated in the case, but for eight years the judge suspected some of his subordinates, members of the Catalan police's anti-corruption unit, over their relationship with an informant, Manuel Gutiérrez Carbajo, whom the prosecution considers the leader of a drug gang. The major agreed with the defence, which claims former superintendent José Manuel Villarejo took advantage of the Macedonia case to discredit Trapero and the Catalan police force.

"He has a long history of trying to sow shadows of suspicion without ever providing evidence," she denounced in a press conference, where she insisted that "the insinuations have no logical or material basis." "There is no other explanation than the desire to stir trouble", she continued. Cunillera also regretted that Villarejo is given credibility by some and has addressed the Catalan government especially to ask it "not to play [Villarejo's] game" because in Catalonia "there is no need for tension". "To what extent do we want to make a lie big and give credibility to those who accuse without evidence?" he asked. He also demanded "respect" for the victims and the investigation that was made of the facts.
