The tourist appeal of Platja d'Aro, where more than half of the 15,712 homes in the municipality are second homes or tourist apartments, has caused housing rental and purchase prices to rise exponentially in recent years. This has led many young people from the town who wanted to become independent to move to other municipalities. So that these residents "can return home", the City Council is working to expand the public "affordable" housing stock, and one of the formulas it is committed to is asking the owners of the 374 homes in the municipality registered as "empty" to make them available to the municipal rental exchange. The City Council considers them empty homes because in the last four years they have not generated any electricity or gas bills. They do pay taxes such as IBI, which can be doubled or tripled from January 2026, and that is why the City Council gives them this warning: "Owner, do you have an empty home? It may be costing you money".

The Platja d'Aro Jazz Nights were born in 1998 as a bold venture, when the major summer music festivals on the Costa Brava had not yet emerged and when jazz in Catalonia was a minority musical genre. Almost thirty years later, this jazz event in Platja d'Aro has consolidated and is among the great summer festivals on the Costa Brava, all characterized by a high-level program performed in unique settings (by the sea, in a historic castle, in charming village squares) and with ticket prices often not affordable for all. The Platja d'Aro Jazz Nights, however, maintain a feature that differentiates it from the rest: all concerts have been and always are free.

The Almarí restaurant, located within the Cala del Pi hotel, in the town of Platja d'Aro, wants to make lovers of pasta, vegetables, rice dishes, fish, and meat happy. For the former, rigatoni stuffed with oxtail under a langoustine topping. A memorable, indulgent dish, with a generous portion, one of those that makes a celebration just by arriving at the table. Pair it with varied starters, such as Roman-style squid, prawn carpaccio with extra virgin olive oil, or with lobster salad with red berries.

It all started with a small café opened in the midst of the pandemic in Platja d'Aro for cycling enthusiasts. The first meeting point for professional and amateur athletes on the Costa Brava. And in just five years, it has taken the leap to open a new location in Catalonia's great cycling mecca and also become the first specialty coffee roaster on the Girona coast. This, added to the big step forward in 2026: opening a new warehouse and reaching customers' homes with online sales (ecommerceMaglia Coffee & Co offers subscriptions to whole bean coffee. With a small team of 14 people (20 in peak season), it has just surpassed one million euros in revenue. At the helm of the project is Marc Guinó, the son of a family of restaurateurs from Maçanet de la Selva, who grew up surrounded by the sounds of coffee machines and cups in the family business. "I've always been a big coffee lover, and tasting specialty coffee was the spark that ignited my idea," he explains about the inspiration behind La Maglia. "I saw specialty coffee shops and cyclists growing in Girona, but there wasn't that kind of offering on the Costa Brava, so we created it." That's how Guinó opened his first shop on Juli Garreta street in Platja d'Aro, opposite Plaça del Mil·lenari, taking advantage of the fact that he lived in S'Agaró, and as a cyclist, he named it after the pink jersey worn by the leaders of the Giro d'Italia.

Playa de Aro will begin an ambitious renovation of its seafront in September. The project will be carried out in three phases and will not only modernize the current promenade, which, according to Mayor Mauricio Jiménez, "dates from the 1990s and has aged poorly," but will also extend it to the port of Aro, thanks to the work carried out 30 years ago. When the project is completed in 2030, the new promenade will stretch along the municipality's two kilometers of beach.
