However, the Balearic Islands have bucked the general downward trend with a 27% increase in arrivals. With a total of 7,295 people, this route is becoming a more common alternative and accounts for one in five arrivals registered this year. Pending data for the last two weeks of the year, the Ministry has recorded 35,935 irregular entries into Spanish territory by sea and land, although the majority of migrants with tourist visas who end up in an irregular situation are those who subsequently become undocumented. The overall decrease is due to reduced pressure on the Canary Islands, where, during this period, there has been a 60% decrease in arrivals, specifically 26,000 fewer, bringing the total to 17,500 people. Conversely, 400 boats carrying 7,295 people have arrived in the Balearic Islands, representing a 27% increase compared to last year. Mediterranean route between Algeria and the Islands Traffic is increasing due to police pressure and surveillance at more traditional entry points, such as the Canary Islands and the Strait of Gibraltar, which is now almost negligible in terms of overall traffic.

This is one of the main measures outlined in the new decree law that the Government is expected to approve this Tuesday. It aims to assess the flood risk of each campsite and the measures they must take to ensure protection in the event of bad weather or flash floods.

Following the start of Israel's offensive in Gaza, The Interior Ministry had announced that it would cancel the bidding process. with IMI Systems LTD, which in Spain is represented by Guardian Homeland Security, but months passed and, finally, it did not go through. To calm the partners, Spanish President Pedro Sánchez promised last April that The contract would be canceled, even if this meant having to pay compensation to the company. However, as ARA has been able to verify, this award is not the only one that has gone ahead while the genocide continues in Palestine. Governments at all levels of administration have signed contracts with Guardian Homeland Security, which is the distributor within Spain of the main manufacturers of Israeli security and defense equipment.

A female agent of the Mossos d'Esquadra had been caught by the managers of a Zara store on Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona committing a theft, according to the digital newspaper The National. The Mossos spokesmen confirmed to the ARA that, upon arrival, the assigned patrol verified that it was a female officer. The first report was filed in February 2020. Home Affairs, then in the hands of JxCat, decided the man could continue to see women as long as he was accompanied by a nurse. It was not until November last year that the department, now ERC's hands, opened disciplinary proceedings against the doctor and banned him from seeing women patients until there was a final finding. Since then two more complaints have been filed: one in February this year and another last Friday, which led to the man's arrest. This month Home Affairs has suspended him without pay.

It is the same commission that was set up in 2013 after Ester Quintana who lost an eye after police fired rubber bullets on protesters during a general strike. The commission proposed a ban on the use of rubber bullets by the Mossos, alongside another 48 suggestions. At least the last two have not been fulfilled. One of these states that Department of Home Affairs had to draft a protocol to pay compensation to victims of actions by the Catalan police. The protocol was approved in 2014, but to implement it, a commission to repair the damage had to be created, which Home Affairs has taken eight years to create: just a month ago, in March, the first meeting was convened.

While the 14th Court of Instruction of Barcelona maintains the investigation for alleged corruption, the Department of Home Affairs has stopped the new tender which sought to fix the irregularities of the past. As ARA has been able to confirm, the Department has announced that the tender – which was in the bidding phase and had not yet been awarded – is on hold because of the bid submitted by Iturri, the company that has so far always provided this service and which the judge is also investigating. Home Affairs says that Iturri has made a "disproportionate" proposal that represents an "imbalance" and that might be decisive to obtain the contract.

The Department of Home Affaits has warned that the there was a 9% increase in road traffic within Barcelona metropolitan area on Monday and a 5% increase on Tuesday and Wednesday. These figures are close to those recorded during the period of September and October, before the perimeter confinements, and which represent only a decrease of 5% compared to the pre-pandemic period. Outside the metropolitan area there has also been an increase of 10% "or more", as reported by the head of the Department, Miquel Sàmper. This tendency worries the department, which foresees that road mobility will increase even further this weekend in spite of the bad meteorological forecasts, with rain and even snowfalls in some places of the country.
