Cellnex posted losses of €361 million last year, compared to €28 million the previous year, due to the extraordinary impact of its reorganization in Spain, according to information submitted to the Spanish National Securities Market Commission (CNMV). In the midst of a focus on core businesses after the first 10 years of acquisitions, the telecommunications infrastructure operator was also affected by "impairment losses, which weighed down the final result despite a strong operational improvement." Revenue increased by 5.8% to €4.418 billion thanks to strong market demand. Operating profit rose from €197 million to €476 million in 2025, more than doubling compared to the previous year. According to Cellnex, "this performance reflects stronger underlying operating results and a lower impact from non-recurring items compared to the previous year." The telecommunications tower business, the largest group, generated €3.225 billion in revenue, a 5.5% increase. "2025 marks a turning point in our transformation, with a structural improvement in free cash flow that confirms the strength of our organic growth and continued progress in operational efficiency," said Marco Patuano, the company's CEO. For 2026, Cellnex forecasts revenue between €4.075 billion and €4.175 billion and adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) between €3.425 billion and €3.525 billion. The company states that the results are "solid" and in line with the forecasts communicated to the market. It also affirms that it "has reinforced its position as a leading operator of communications infrastructure in Europe." The company highlights the increase in shareholder remuneration, exceeding initial targets through a €1 billion share buyback program. In January, it began paying the first tranche of its committed annual dividend of €500 million.

With this transaction, the telecommunications infrastructure manager completes the deal it announced last October. The transaction is being carried out through its subsidiary Cellnex France, which is transferring 99.9% of the capital of Towerlink France, the entity responsible for the group's main data center operations in the country, as reported by Cellnex to the Spanish National Securities Market Commission (CNMV). The closing of the deal follows approval from French authorities regarding foreign direct investment. It was also completed after fulfilling all customary conditions for this type of transaction, including the information and consultation process with employee representatives in France. The sale has been settled entirely in cash, as planned since the initial announcement, the company reported. Cellnex announced the transaction on October 17, 2025, when it reported the signing of a put option agreement with Vauban Infra Fibre for this transfer. At that time, the telecommunications infrastructure group explained that the divestment in France was part of its strategic focus and was subject to regulatory approvals and the corresponding labor procedures, which have now been completed.

In Europe alone, more than 520 million people are connected via mobile networks. Each line transmits more than 50 gigabytes of data per month, and 5G alone already accounts for more than 200 million active connections. All of this requires energy: about 0.12 kilowatt-hours per gigabyte transferred. But what happens if all of this stops? Maintaining the electricity supply is vital because our communications and our presence in the world depend on it. If the electricity fails, not only does technology shut down: the digital pulse of society stops. During the blackout of April 28, 2025, the absolute dependence of modern society on energy and communication networks became evident. Cellnex, which played a key role in keeping broadcasting and emergency networks operational, demonstrated that investment in robust infrastructure is essential to guaranteeing continuity of service in critical situations.

Marc Murtra, president of Telefónica, anticipated a change of course last February. He had only been in the company for a month. telecom replacing José María Álvarez-Pallete, he argued that the company needed to adapt to the changing times. Nine months later, coinciding with the presentation of results for the period between January and September – Telefónica lost 1.08 billion euros – Murtra has put the announced change in writing. This Tuesday, under the name Transform and GrowTelefónica has presented its strategic plan for the next five years. "It will be a difficult battle," the Catalan executive acknowledged to analysts and investors, referring to the plan presented. However, he defended the need to fight it to become "the leading [telecommunications] operator in Europe." But the difficulties, at least initially, have not gone unnoticed by the market. Telefónica closed Tuesday's trading session with a 13.12% drop, one of the steepest in its history, with the share price settling at €3.73. One of the most sensitive issues for investors, and one that Telefónica has managed to address, is its shareholder remuneration policy. The company will maintain its 2025 dividend (0.30 cents per share), but has announced a cut for 2026 (0.15 cents per share, to be paid in cash in 2027). Management explained that the decision was unanimously approved by the board of directors, which includes shareholders such as SEPI, the state investment arm (10%), and Criteria (10%), La Caixa's holding company, which relies primarily on dividends from its subsidiaries. Murtra, however, downplayed the stock market decline. "[At Telefónica] there has been an aversion to making difficult decisions, whether cutting the dividend or acknowledging losses [...] these decisions are often difficult to explain or understand. [...] The market, when the time comes, or however it comes, will follow us," the Catalan executive stated at a press conference.

This protocol will also allow for coordinated efforts to deploy fiber optics throughout Catalonia, benefiting smaller municipalities.
